Yeah I would go with the LS its an overall better car, you be able to drive it for 4 years even with your mileage. Well right now a LS 460 2007 would be worth $16,650 I think its worth it and although that price may vary thats something you can still work worth. Def get a warranty though.

KBB has a 2007 Lexus at $42,500.00, and even if it had 98,000 miles on it, it still books for $31,000.00 (here in America)?

For 3-4k more you could get a 07 or 08 CPO with less mileage. Don't waste your money on a 3rd party warranty. You can probably get an 08 CPO with 20-25k miles for around 40k. Preferably go with an 08 that has had the valve spring recall done and has the dual pane Lamisafe windows.

You'd have more predictable and less costly expenses with the Avalon.

You can also get a new base model ES350 for $37,000. Mechanically the ES350 is identical to the Avalon so cost of ownership should be similar. So if I were you, I'd be agonizing more about whether or not to get as ES350 or Avalon.

An LS would be OK if, and only if, some unexpected $2000-4000 repairs would not do serious damage to your bank account and overall financial situation (the LS is loaded with expensive to replace components (not just the engine and transmission).

The unexpected repair is why I was wondering about extended warranty. It WOULD be a blow to the financial situation, but if the extended warranty cover it, then I'm ok with it.

Now the ES is a great option, except it is smaller inside and I use all the room I can when traveling with folks, or when delivering packages.

Nice option, I'll give more consideration to.

The ES350 is based off of the Camry, and its fwd, uck! Well than so is the Avalon. SO unless you live in a state that fwd is needed and 4wd is a plus than go with either of those. But like I said earlier, stick with an LS460 if you can get one with a cpo warranty. Some of those third party warranty companies are scams.

Be careful because I had to extend the warranty on my 07LS460 because the mileage was low but the service date was what ended the warranty. Make sure you have them check what the "service date " is. That will be critical. When I got my 07 LS it only had 32k on it. I called my service advisor at Lexus with the VIN# and he looked up the service date and even told me where it was serviced, what state it was from, and even told me that the car had been serviced every 5k miles religiously. Made me feel even better about my purchase. I would suggest doing the same thing.

Skip don't take what I have to say the wrong way but maybe you should just get the Avalon. B/C if you put 35k a year on the LS you are going to put a lot of money into service if you want to maintain the car. Not hundreds, thousands. This is if you plan to keep and maintain the car. If you are going to drive it into the ground and just do oil changes, well that is up to you.

Also if you are going to drive that much I would highly recommend the extra piece of mind of getting a CPO car bought at a dealer (7 yrs/100k miles). My thinking is you will see the dealer often (unless you DIY yourself) and if you buy the car and service it there they will be more inclined to give you a break here/there and be more happy to fix something if it needs fixing. Lexus dealer simply are not fans of people who buy the cars at some random mom/pop/used car store then bring it to them for problems. It is about relationship building.

As you know with your Avalon experience quality hiccups are few but when it is time to service a car with an original MSRP of 70-100k, well it is not cheap and its something to think about. MPG won't be far worse than the Avalon especially highway miles.

The LS is a fabulous vehicle and the build quality and features between the two are night and day. Just understand that yes the price is comparable used to a new Avalon but the price to maintain it is far different.

I'm just saying it b/ over my years here so many people buy a used Lexus then complain or are unprepared for the maintenance of the vehicle.

Is your main issue mileage, price, or trade in? Seems you can get a 2011 Avalon for the same price point as a 3-4 year old Lexus. Unless the Lexus is a CPO, I'd go with the Avalon. At the rate you drive, you'll burn out the warranty on the Avalon in 1-1/2 years anyway. Even a CPO is only good for 100K..you'll eat that up in a little more than a year. As for trade-in value, a 2-year old car with 70K on it won't fetch much. Neither will a 5-6 year old Lexus with 100K plus on the odometer. IMHO, I'd dance with the one you brung as long as it's running well and not a maintenance nightmare, and keep racking up the mileage on the current car. Buy either the Lexus or the Avalon as a 'weekender" if you absolutely, positively, must have another ride.
