considering a 2008 460LS need advice
this is a great forum
I am considering a used 2008460ls
i test drove one yesterday the ride experience is insanely quiet
for you long time ownwers any advice hints recommendations?
what is the issue with the valves many car fax reports i have read refer to rocker arm isssues and i see on a post here a reference to a recall can some one explain?
i am a currrent owner of a modified legacy gt and a DYI'er
what little maintenace there is can i be done by someone who is mechanically inclined?
will the ride be boring?
thanks i hope to be a proud ownwer soon

compared to some of the cars I have owned E and S class benz, the LS is actually easy to work on. If your serious about DIY you may want to cruise EBay or CL for a used set of service manuals. Its 6 volumes about 300-450 pages each.
I dont find mine boring, but would say its better classified as a touring sedan than a drivers car. You can log into https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/lex...LoggedOut=true and register as a new owner, then take the VIN on the car your looking at and register that, you can see all of the dealer records for the vehicle and then de-register it if you dont buy it.
Carfax I have found to be worthless in my experience, most Lexus owners will use the dealer for recalls etc, so its a good way to see what was performed and what is left for you to take care of.
Fuel Rails, Idler Pullies, the VSR are the three major recalls to look for. The VSR was to replace the Valve Springs, it is the major recall of the 3, but most find it to be a non-issue.
Overall, even a used LS if it has been well maintained will last longer and have less problems than a lot of new vehicles.

Lexus Test Driver
I agree you can order a manual from lexus as well. not sure about the service manual but you will get a good history report as well if they used the dealership, which I would assume for the first 50k on miles. some good info on there as well too.
