The CLS500 is a great car to look at but a pain when it comes to maintenance bills! The CLS lived at the shop while on warranty and I've NEVER EVER EVER had any problems like I did with it with any car I've owned in the past. That includes 3 Ford Mustangs, a 1998 GS300, Nissan 350z, and Saleen convertible I've owned. I've had wiring issues, the whole AC Unit module that inside the car had to be replaced, Air Strut issues, trunk issues, and I can go on but I'll stop there.
I doubt I will ever own a Mercedes again unless it's under a 100k bumper to bumper warranty. Once it's up, I'd definitely get rid of it.

I was considering buying the 2012 CLS 550, but now having a second thought after hearing comments like your and others from Mercedes Benz forum. I may just wait for new 2013 LS 500 in late 2012. If I buy another LS, it would be my fourth LS. I had been very lucky with Lexus LS, they all have been pretty much bullet proof for me.

I've had the pleasure to own five LS 430/460s over the past eight years. The necessary maintenance repairs were always accomplished to my complete satisfaction and in a timely manner and a new loaner was always provided while the LS was in the shop. Some of the repairs/recalls:
-- Six speed transmission recalled, removed and replaced with new transmission, fuel pump also changed at the same time under recall. Dealer filled the tank with gas. Lexus sent $200 gas credit card with apology for the inconvenience.
-- AC was making noise in the cabin, removed and replaced the interior heater/AC unit under the dash in the car, problem solved.
-- Leather driver's seat cracked, removed and replaced seat bottom.
-- Floor rugs did not fit properly. After initial attempt to stretch rug, they replaced all the rugs in the car, problem solved.
-- Nail in tire sidewall when the LS was nearly new. Dealer indicated that tires were not covered under Lexus warranty, but covered by the manufacturer of the tire. After a dealer call to Lexus Hq, they replaced the tire with a new one, e.g. happy customer.
-- Valve springs replaced on LS460, took only one day, received $1500 trade credit toward a new Lexus and a $500 credit for parts/maintenance. Use the credits to purchase/trade LS for a 2011 RX350 which I like very much.

Make sure you check out Smoky Granite Mica. I have it on my 2011 LS and love it. It's kind of like "black" without the problems of black. Doesn't show dust, etc.. I've had many people comment on how much they like the color.

Thanks man! I've thought about checking that color out as well. I'll keep you guys posted. Deciding whether to buy a LS with or without the Mark Levingston system is killing me. It's hard to find one with the ML!

fwiw, get the ml, unless you always do audio stuff yourself

I found a CPO 2008 Red Mica ls460 with no ML for 38.5k and then found a 2007 White ls460 CPO with ML for 41k. I want the 38k price with ML but they won't go for it. LOL...
Decisions I tell ya!
