Default volume **** WON'T adjust volume

I have an 07 LS460. I was driving it all day and volume **** worked fine...parked it for about an hour then drove and tried to adjust volume but does not respond. Anybody have any suggestions? The volume control on steering wheel works just not volume ****.

Toggle the volume up/down volume paddles on the left side of the steering wheel. That might kick something loose. Also the NAV might be overriding it somehow like it does to mute the radio volume when it has something to say. Make sure the guidance isn't on.

That's happened to me twice before in a Toyota Prius (owned for three years). Just used the steering wheel *****, and the next time I turned the car on it worked fine again. Hasn't been an issue since.

Nav guidance does not override the audio when giving verbal guidance, I think it would be good if it did or at least have a setting option. However, the voice recognition mutes the audio during the input session.

I experienced the same problem a few weeks ago. I could only control the volume on the steering wheel. I have the premium sound system. For five minutes I couldn't understand what was going on. I was pissed and worried because my warranty ended last month. Before I could finish the F in WTF, the volume control came back on.

I've had this happen a few times.

I pushed the volume control/power button several times - and that seemed to correct the problem.

I know this thread is a little bit dated but I am experiencing the exact same issue and boy is it annoying me!!! I am going to try everything above but I figured since it was 5 years ago since someone asked the question has anyone else come up with any other ideas or fixes for this? Thanks for the help!

Fwiw, there are plenty of replacements on Ebay for about 330 bucks, should you need to replace it.

I have repaired mine last year, hopefully i remember correctly:
  1. Remove the DVD-unit, you can find instructions here on CL and Youtube.
  2. Remove the screws that hold the front of the DVD-unit in place.
  3. Remove the front from the DVD-drive. (you have to bend some clips a little bit.)
  4. Resolder the volume button with 60/40 solder, do NOT use leadfree solder. That's why it got loose.
  5. Reassemble
Mine is working fine now.

That's an outstanding contribution to this forum, Higgie. Well done.

^^^ +1 Chris!
Thanks a great deal Higgie, for placing your input in this forum.
Wondering what this would have cost versus the cost to DIY...
If its any help, there is a video via YouTube where a gentleman took apart his dash area housing the DVD/heat & a/c unit.
Also, I have the instructions as well if you want them. I can scan them and email them to you, as they came with the Prestigious Society override module.
Its much easier then you may think.
Keep us posted and of course, good luck!
