Gotta love the Governmental Services Tax AND the Supplemental Governmental Services Tax. Such a joke...
Out here we pay excise tax, $25 on every $1,000 of book value. The car begins with a book value set by the state for that particular vehicle (no options), and the depreciation schedule is set across the board: 90% of book in year 1 (the model year), 80% in year 2, 60% in year 3, etc., which is part of the reason I bought an '08. The tax goes to the municipalities, but the roads in my area happen to be among the worst in the state.
Fawkkkkk!!! Is that annual reg or tax on purchase of the car?
For annual reg, I get raped about $75/yr. But again I'm in Texas, not like CA, where nobody wants to live.

yeah i don't what the hell is going on in the state of Nevada. I knew it was going to be higher considering I was paying $550/year for my 06 GS300 and $520 for my 08 IS250. This makes me love my beater 99 Honda Accord...only $95/year.

6.25% (used to be 5%) sales tax due at registration the first time, biennial registration fee of 40 some dollars, and annual excise tax as I described above... in perpetuity. It bottoms out at 10% of original book value, so for the LS it's about $100 per year starting in year 6 or so, but they get you earlier on.
dang, that's crazy. i'm staring at my registration renewal notice from CA DMV and it's telling me i owe $519 by september 14th haha. when i bought the car, though, i think license + plate fees and whatever were almost $900
