2007 LS460 Audio Upgrade
#18
right now, I'm getting some dynamat installed on all four doors. From what I learn from my install, that was the first thing, that should be done. My system sounded great when parked at home, but when you drive. You loose a lot of bass and clarity, so you have to turn the volume up to compensate for the lost of sound. I'm also building an amp rack, nothing fancy, just a few inch high so i can still use my trunk. I'll post some pics later when I'm done.

6x9
too bad kicker discontinued the 6x9 woofers they use to make. But you can replace them with CDT audio 6x9 woofers. I'm not sure about the mounting depth of the door speaker, but its more then 4 inch. when you roll the window down, the glass stops right above hole where the speaker is mounted. I also thought about adding JLaudio w3 in 6.5 woofers before I replace them with the focal, but was worried about the mounting depth.

Yeah, I remember kicker having a nice 6x9 which is what I had in my caddy but I cant find them. I went with a pair of Eclipse SC6900s for the doors. They're components so I might be replacing the factory tweeter in the dash as well. I listened to some in a buddies FJ Cruiser which happens to have the same set up in the doors and they sound pretty good for the price. He's driving them with a Kicker 350.4, so hopefully the ML amp will be able to keep up, if not, I see a major upgrade in my future. Another choice would have been the Tang 6x9s but the mounting holes are a bit off and theyre more rectangular than oval. I'll take some pics and post an update once I get them.

Hey GhostPilot ! This is a great thread ! I've got 2 quik questions - for both you and Shibumi1:
1) For the front 4" midranges - Does the dash "screen" simply pull off quickly (easily) ?
and for Shibumi1:
2) Where are the 3 inchers (shown in your latest post above) going to be mounted ?
Thanks in advance, Mikey

the center grille just pops out..but the left and right side grilles are held in by the a pillars.. so they must be removed 1st.
as for the 3"mids im replacing the oem 4" w the Focal 3's(in the dash only) sure they are smaller but WAY more efficient an musical than the oem.. (i originally thought of using my Diamond Hex 4" but it would require alot of mods to the dash due to depth an width) if u look at pic 3.. thats the focal sitting in the oem housing for the factory 4...the oem tweet will be swapped for a D9 tweet which is also a lot larger than oem...if u've ever heard either u'll understand my choice....the 6x9's will be replaced by 2 D9 7's in each door...
