Default Getting Rid of Locking Wheel Lug Nuts

The locking lug nuts are a PITA for me. How much will 4 "normal" lug nuts cost and can I order them online anywhere? My odds of having the wheels stolen are slim. More likely they'd take the whole car. I hate always having to remember to leave the lug nut key thingie for service.

daryll, you'll need m14x1.5 lugs. your lexus dealer probably stocks them, or you can find a set at your local o'reillys/autozone/pep boys

if you have factory wheels, one thing for sure is you do NOT have to leave the key with them. dealership stocks all the keys and mechanics shouldn't even bother to look for yours. i never provided mine, and the key was never touched

do what most people do and just leave the lug key in the trunk. What else are you supposed to do. My Lexus dealership has the keys to the different locks

I'd rather buy 4 lug nuts and not be bothered

Any Toyota dealer should have the lug nuts as well as a Lexus dealer. My Lexus dealer has a master and doesn't need the key. My local Toyota dealer doesn't have a master key.

as oem wheels become larger they become more of a target.. less protection.. an being from a lexus they will fit a variety of vehicles.. i truly hope u dont get targeted.. bcuz it will be a rough morning.. while your calling in to work late then the insurance company all while filling out the police report. not too mention the "bother"some task of calling the tow truck an lifting your car off the blocks to get another set of wheels put on....

i did an alarm last week for a couple with a 2011 honda fit.. they've had their oem 17" wheels stolen for the 2nd time in 6months (this time at the movies) the dealer cost to replace them is $3000...

I know it's a PITA, but that's the point. Since nothing is technically theft proof, you just want to make it a PITA for the thief so he'll target another car. I think it's worth the trouble.

a set of $20 bolt-outs can defeat the stock locks. or a hammer+socket.

if you live in an area that makes you feel that secure, go for it. Otherwise, if anything, i'd be moving away from the factory style locks towards something a little more secure.

its all a matter of time... the more time it takes to get them off.. the better the chance of getting caught..
even aftermarket locks can be bought at autozone or discount. a professional thief will have all sets avail.... (i personally recommend 2 diff sets of locks so u need at least 2 diff keys to get any 1 wheel off) but now we're talkin $40 whole dollars to protect ur investment.....

as for the area u live... i dunno if that really applies... bcuz thieves usually target nicer neighborhoods to get better quality products... why steal from someone just as broke as yourself...

Wow! This is a topic? Having a set of locking lugs on your car really bothers you that much? How often are you going to the dealer for them to need your wheel key? Is your car okay?
