Default Poweder Coating

Hi guys! I have a question regarding powder coating rims--I hope it's ok to ask in this thread. I tried asking in the general wheels/rims forum weeks ago and it seems that forum in not frequented very much.

In my previous car ('15 GX) I had the rims powder coated black. They looked amazing. After a little time, though, one of the rims started to chip a little. Is this due to the shop I had doing it, just not as thorough, or is this common? Also, I have been reading more about powder coating rims and some articles say it's bad for the rims (mostly rim painting companies) and some say it's perfectly fine (powder coating companies). Of course each is going to push their own agendas for business, so I understand that. I'm just wondering if anyone here has some educated opinions or experiences with it? I don't really know anything about this kind of stuff, but I know the people here know a crap ton about practically everything, so I wanted to ask here.

My new (to me) car is a '14 LS 460L and I'm doing a chrome delete and want black rims to match, so I was going to powder coat black on these rims, too, but wanted to make sure I wasn't doing something that would compromise the integrity of the rims.

Thanks so much for any input!
