I just thought I'd post this here.. It made me laugh that LS460 is even compared to the Ford Taurus... The comments made me laugh a little.

I rented a Taurus last year for about 5 days.
I can't speak about the resistance to chipping, but......
1. I was very impressed with both the ride and interior of the Taurus. Enough so that when it comes time to replace my LS600hL, I'll include it in the cars I look at (along with an Audi A6).
2. After 5 years, my paint looks brand new, with a deep luster, without even any parking lot dings. And this is after 4 Maine winters! At the time I purchased it, the dealer claimed that the LS600hL paint was superior to the LS460 (double wet sanded between coats, or some such thing), but I don't think that that translates to resistance to chipping.

Doesn't Lexus claim that their paint is "self healing"? The video points out that the ultra violet test indicates the depth of the "chip". If the Lexus "self healing" point is in fact true perhaps the UV light test might not be as dramatic if they gave the Lexus more time for the paint to "heal"?
Of course, the fact that the LS comes from the factory with the plastic "anti-chip" film already in place suggests that Lexus expected a chipping issue.

I believe Id read that the newer LS had self healing paint as well.
I rented an MKZ last year and it supposed to be a luxury version of the Taurus and I must say that I was very impressed. I had the car for 2 weeks while out of town but when I returned home and drove my LS, I really saw that the MKZ didnt compare.

I like renting cars on vacation because it makes me appreciate the level of luxury and refinement in the LS. Last year I went to Hawaii and rented a Jeep for the week and all I could think of is what a POS. It was the lowest of the low in my book. When I got back my LS460 felt like a Rolls Royce Phantom

Lets say that the way the Taurus ride is close if not similar to that of an LS460.. what about technology, safety features, interior materials.. I know I'm missing something else. Anyone have the info?

Taurus with not many upgrades msrp 32k was very impressive leather was comparable to the LS leather no suede on the top however but the acceleration was smooth ~300hp or so spacious nice handling bluetooth heated front seats most interior materials seemed decent no idea how they hold up after 50k miles if no rattles or the such but coming from my ls600 I was imressed and my first car was a 1998 taurus so I believe I am a reliable source.
