Default Should Nav Maps Update Be Part of CPO Process?

Good Afternoon All...

I picked up my 07 LS460L on Friday and am just now learning some things about the vehicle. When I look at the map data (see picture below), it appears that it's very old data. What is the most current version of these maps? It seems to me if a vehicle is "Certified Pre Owned", as mine is, updating the maps should be standard operating procedure. Not so, according to the dealer I purchased this vehicle from. I would love to hear some other opinions on this. I can obviously afford the update, but am annoyed that it isn't something that they would just do. Any and all feedback is most appreciated.

It should, however you should put it at time of car negotiation, they will add navigation upgrade in your purchase to do list, if you didn't do that upfront, it will be hard to negotiate after.

I'm sure they would if a deal depended on it

Does anyone know what the current version of maps are for the LS? According to this, the version is something like .6 something and not even at the number 1. That seems odd to me, and it also seems like these would be ancient maps, given the version number displayed. Also, I see a date on that information screen from 2006 (not sure what the date means) and my car wasn't even built until April of 2007.

It is part of the CPO process. This is something that many of the dealer forget to update unless the buyer request it.

The current version is 11.1. A new version is typically released in the Fall of each year. The version you have is original to the car.

Thank you for the information. I'll call the dealer tomorrow to see about updating these maps without being forced to pay for them.

I just picked up my '09 LS460 CPO this weekend and the maps were not updated. I asked about it and the salesman said the update was $229 :-) I already negotiated the deal and wasn't particularly concerned, so I did not push it.

Side note, I drove it from FL to IN....what an incredible car! I am thrilled to have it!!

I am about to purchase a CPO IS 250 and was just told I would have to pay for it because "the discount they gave me left slim margins". How can I prove it's part of the CPO rpocess? I can't find it anywhere on Lexus site. The NAV update is $309!

NO. It is not part of the CPO checklist.

I think this issue is very poor Manufacturer and Dealer customer management. My cell phone works very well and is updated free. Just not sure where the value proposition is for on board nav systems. You paid for the hardware so what is so special about the MAP software that requires these fees?

I came across this article on considering NAV and sound system components when buying CPO. Very good points and drives home the point that on an older car, the NAV is suspect. A 3-4 year old MAP is barely usable and could be a source of annoyance.

Spot on.

I asked about it when I negotiated for my CPO LS knowing how expensive those upgrades are. Oddly, they wouldn't update it for me, but they took an add'l $300 off the price. Weird.
