Default Michelin Tire Problem on LS460

I am now on my second set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires on my '09 LS. The first set had worn corners, evenly on both corners on all tires, at just 15,000 miles. I bot them from TIRE RACK but ended up at a local Michelin dealer who got Michelin to pro-rate them on only a new set of Michelins. So I ended up with the same tire. Now at 3000 miles I can see the corners starting to wear again. Anyone else having similar issues on this highly rated (for LS) tire? I live in Pittsburgh and it's rough on ALL tires. But this seems extreme.

Sounds like under-inflation.

Definitely not. I even added a few and check for 35 pounds every two weeks

Is your tire gauge accurate? How does it compare to your car's TPMS?

Maybe your toe alignment needs to be adjusted, if it is out of spec that eat your tires up faster than any other symptom.

I appreciate the suggestions, but it's not an alignment or inflation issue. I check the pressure regularly, and have it confirmed on the dash continously. And I have a "5 Year Alignment" deal at NTB and get the alignment checked all the time. If no one else is having trouble with these "after market" tires (they are not the OEM Michelins) that are highly rated for the LS, I guess it's just my driving. (But I'm still suspicious!)

I am not sure what you mean by "corner wear." If you look at the pictures in the link cited in Post #2, does your wear pattern look like any of those?

My problem looks exactly what pattern labled "underinflation".

I love the Michelin pilot sport AS plus. Its the best tire I have ever use on my GS or any other car. I wanted them my LS but the service advisor said that they have a lot of issue with them on the LS460 and he suggested the Michelin HXXM4 ( or something like that). Its the same tire the use on the 2012 LS

The SINGLE-BEST tire I have ever ridden on are our Michelin Primacy MMX4's. These are NOT Pilot "Sports." However, after getting the Lumari wheels, we now ride on Continentals.

What is important to note is that Michelin, from all I have been able to determine, DISCONTINUED the Michelin Primacy MMX4's for an LS460. Sadly. I sincerely hope someone can show me where I am wrong on this issue. What I heard was some dealers still have inventory, but not very much.

Good Luck to you, Mikey Lulejian - Lake Oconee, GA

many times even when a company discontinues a part many of their distributors will still have some inventory left.

i would try bumping up the psi slightly, possibly to 38 or 40 and see if that wear pattern continues

It's important to understand how the manufacture comes up with the "correct" tire pressure in the first place.

What they look for is the point where the OEM tire generates the least friction. This is calculated by measuring the surface temperature of the tread after driving at freeway speeds. Once the inside, middle, and outside of the tread give similar numbers during different runs at different pressures they start large scale test at the equalibriam pressure.

If you are using a tire that is not OEM you may have to adjust the pressure to get the correct wear pattern. If you have access to a good laser thermometer you can do some tests and compute your best tire pressure yourself.
