I Blew A Tire
Many of you have provided good discussion for me regarding the rapid wear of my Michelin PILOT A/S tires. I now have 5000 miles on the second set and they are showing wear on the corners of the tires. Anyway, last night I hit a pot hole at about 35 MPH and blew the front passenger tire. I figure it's gonna cost about $300 to get a new one, and it will have less wear than the mates. So I thought about buying 2 tires. But in the end, it seems like throwing bad money after good. So I am seriously considering buying 4 Continental DWS tires and "eating" the fact that I only got 5000 miles out of the remaining 4 Michelins. Hopefully I didn't damage the wheel or the car...it was too dark and I was able to park on a side street. I'll deal with it later this morning. Probably will be my first time using Lexus Roadside Assistance.
Anyway, the roads here (Pittsburgh) are terrible in general but really bad this time fo year as the weather changes but the crews can't get all the potholes patched fast enough.
Anyone have the Conti's that I mentioned? They survey well on TIRE RACK (but so did my Michelins). It appears that they don't have as "sharp" an edge as the Michelins that I have so perhaps they'll wear better.

Like you I had a tire ruined (it picked up a nail on the outside edge so it wasn't repairable). I had 23,000 on my original Turanzas so I decided to get 4 new tires even though the Turanzas were wearing well and had plenty of tread left.
I considered the Conti DWS because of its high recommendation of this site. I ended up going with the Pirelli P Zero Nero because both Tire Rack and Consumer Reports have had them top rated for wet road performance for the past several years. Since I tend to drive as fast on wet roads as I do when they're dry, this was my prime consideration.
I've had the tires for 14,000 miles and I am very happy with their performance. I've had many different brands on my Q45a and none have performed as well as these on wet roads (I never did have Contis though). So far the wear looks good and I've experienced none of the "pulling" that others here have with some brands.
Just my 2 cents for what it's worth.

I just looked (based on your recommendation) and the P Zero Nero is well rated. You're in Massachusetts?

Lexus Roadside Assistance (in contract with AAA it seems) showed up in less than 15 minutes and changed the tire. I am now running three Michelin Pilot A/S and one Bridgestone OEM tire (the spare). Maybe I'll run it that way for a while since I've already deemed the Michelin's as "lame duck" awaiting replacement. Probably weird driving characteristics.

I ended up ordering the Michelin Energy A/S at Sam's Club. Costco is not convenient but I'm at Sam's Club often. Their "make it good" policy is as good (or almost as good) as Sam's Club. I ended up paying the same as Tire Rack plus sales tax. I figured for the extra $60, I'll have a local shop and face I can deal with if (when?) they fail to deliver the 55K miles. The remaining front Pilot A/S has a bad wear and the two rear Pilot A/S are like new at 5000 miles. So I'll out them on Ebay or Craig's list and salvage whatever I can get. Shiz happens...I'll pay the juice and move on.

a Visa credit card once they process your rebate. I received an email about the rebate
from Michelin, so I know it's being offered now...
