Default New memeber, a few questions

Hello fellow lexus enthuisists, I will hopefully be joining your ranks as a fellow owner tomorrow. First you guys have a great forum and alot of great information. I have over the last month read through or browsed every page in the forum and learned a great deal. I plan on purchasing a 2010 with sport package tomorrow and have learned about the wind noise, and how to remedy it. I have learned about the differences between the models and different options. I am aware of the potential brake noise with the sport option. I have read about how to update nav and how much it costs. I have read the pros and cons of cpo or not cpo. But with that said I still have a few questions. First if the vehicle is cpo does it have to have the latest map upgrade as part of it or must I ask for it? Does a cpo car require new tires and brakes or only if less then 50% remaining? And does anybody that has recently bought/sold or has been shopping feel comfortable guessing on a fair price for a 2010 ls 460 sport, cpo with 31000 miles and ML and comfort plus I believe? it has the parking assist feature. I know price can be a fickle thing and it comes down to the buyer being happy, however with that said I am just wondering others opinions on a fair price. Clean car fax one owner and white exterior color. Pleasure to be amongst you guys and if I purchase tomorow I will gladly post pics. Thanks

Welcome. Glad you're with us. Wish more new members took as much time researching and learning as you've shared with us that you have. Impressive.

A few answers:

1) Regarding CPO: ANYTHING you want ....... or are concerned about.......Ask, and then make it part of your agreement. Put it in writing in the sales contract as to what NAV software version you want on delivery date.

2) Brakes pads and tires. There is not hard fast ruling on this. Ask about them - Brake pad life and tire tread remaining (your sales person should FREELY tell you how much "Pad life" is left - JMLexus does this normally as part of their sales process (Margate, FL) - and I have spoken to two other Elite dealers where their sales persons normally do this as well, on all CPO Lexus.) - then check and if you do not get what you want, make these items part of the sales contract. No dealer today is gonna turn down a "deal" over a set of tires. Or a new set of brake pads.

3) YOU put it in the contract. Take a pen and write YOUR conditions in, and get the sales person to initial it that he has verified that this is part of your offer.

I leave your other questions for more qualified persons here to to answer for you.
Good Luck, and again, love your researching style. If more people took this much time to learn first, there would more satisfied buyers.

Mike thanks for the input, I appreciate it. I ended up buying the car and have already logged a 300 mi trip home in it and so far I am very happy. Il try and post some pics up if I can figure out how to get them off my phone.

Observations thus far,

Fuel economy for such a large car is excellent, I averaged 28.8 MPG cruising at 80.
ML sound system sounds pretty good but, unless I am losing my hearing its not very loud, I often found myself jamming out at max volume. However that may be due to the source, I was using blue tooth to stream audio. I experimented with the suspension settings and there seems to be a noticable difference between sport and comfort, I ussually thought of these setting as gimmicky but hey, maybe they do work. I plan spending today familiarizing myself with the owners manual and getting my personalized settings stored in the car.

? I wasnt able to get them to include a map upgrade into the deal and I am currently running version 9.1, I have read about cost and how to update but I notice that only 11.1 is out now, does anyone know when 12.1 will be released?

Welcome! I don't think I have ever maxed out the volume, must be your source. The Nav updates are typically done every fall.

No, but it is negotiable.

Does a cpo car require new tires and brakes or only if less then 50% remaining?

I'm not sure about this, but see the second part of my answer to your first question.

And does anybody that has recently bought/sold or has been shopping feel comfortable guessing on a fair price for a 2010 ls 460 sport, cpo with 31000 miles and ML and comfort plus I believe?

Go to edmunds.com and plug in all your car's specifics, this will give you a good idea if your price is in the ballpark.

....is it of no worry because its covered under warranty?

BINGO!

And I second everything Mikey said about getting it in the contract. As a lawyer friend of mine here in Boston always says, a verbal agreement isn't worth the paper it's not printed on!

Oh, and welcome to the Club!!!!

1) Congrats and welcome

2) GREAT mileage results. Pls don't be disappointed if you notice it dropping off after awhile.

3) TEST your ML system with a commercial CD - One you purchased (not one you made or copied). Use THAT CD as a reference as to whether your ML system plays loud enough.

4) I guess I don't understand why a dealer would not throw in a $150 NAV upgrade and 30 minutes of a tech's labor ? It would not have killed them to make you a really satisfied customer. I guess that's why I so strongly endorse JM Lexus (Margate, FL) - There you not have had to "try" and get this.....It would already have been performed as part of their own CPO process !!!!!

5) My personal suggestion: Before you consider a NAV upgrade, drive the car, learn and live with what you have- and you may come to the SAME conclusion so many others already have. To wit, A) the cost of the upgrade in totally unreasonable, B) it does not provide anywhere enough "results" to justify the expense, and C) that using a Garmin GPS or a Cell Phone makes a lot more sense.

Again ...... Thanks for sharing and hopefully you will have more to add as your LS460 experience justifies.

The nav system upgrade consists of a new disk that generally only has upgrades to existing maps. If you live in an area where highway or street construction in ongoing, they it might be beneficial. Best way to determine that is to go to MyLexus and you can find detailed changes, state by state, for the the changes that have been made. Then it's your decision as to whether or not it's worth the upgrade.

Ive attached some pics, there from the auto trader ad, Ill post some of my own when I get a chance. Ive spent some more time with the car today it really is a great vehicle. I took the time to wash it up from the road trip and put a good coat of wax on her. I got the garage door programed, seat memory set, and all of the personable settings one can make done. Thanks for the advice about the the nav upgrade, I agree I ussually use my iphone and like you said you could get a garmin or tom/tom for the price of the upgrade. As far as the ML sound system, I think I must have a little hearing loss, I suppose I do work in an enviroment that Im subject to that sort of thing, but Im just never been able to comfortably jam out to a stereo system at max volume before. I will test a store bought cd and see if that makes a diiference. Now dont get me wrong, it plays loud, Im just surprised I can listen at max volume without feeling like im damagaing my hearing.

As far as options im not sure what packages it has but it has nav, ML, parking sensors, the hold button, and that automatic parking button, and rear sunshade, for future reference is this group of options known as anything ie comfort package or something? Thanks guys, great site here.

Take a picture of your center console between your armrest and ashtray areas, along with rear armrest open and your steering wheel and that will reveal many of your options.
