In a perfect world, Lexus would offer that switch to replace as a Field Replaceable Unit for $50 bucks instead of the whole assembly for $700.
It only takes two screws to replace it. (sigh). The rest of the unit looks fine and rugged.

In my mind, this was built-in obsolescence or poor design.

It was extremely disappointing to own such a fine car and get hit with this exorbitant bill. Could not close the trunk without it, though.

Can you please post a pic of the broken part and this switch that you've spoken of, that would be very helpful for someone to try and locate this switch. Thank you.

Have identical problem. Car at dealer now and they have informed me it's a trunk motor and will cost $2000 to fix. Are you kidding me? Will ask for bad parts and let you know.

At that price, you might want to tell them to hold off. Call around a couple of Toyota/Lexus independents and see how much they will charge. If the part is ~$700 (see above posts), the dealer's labor rate has gone up 500% in 3 years! Something's not right.

Default LS 460 trunk lock

Thanks to the write-in helpers! I tried everything else suggested get the LS 460 truck to stay close, before I tried disconnecting the battery. However, once I did that the problem was solved.

My only question is how do I release the cover from the lining of the trunk to fix the latch

get plastic or metal trim removal tools n pry the black clips off, they are all over and and plastic trim that has no bolts or cover concealing bolts and held in my plastic clips so usually flat pieces facing the front of the car, get pulled that way , just be gentle and see where the clips are.
