Default How long will brakes last?

I have an 08 LS460 with 50k miles on it. Most of it city miles. I'm an average driver and not too hard on my brakes.

I searched the forum and couldn't find anything?

How long should they last?

How much to get fixed?

Anything else I have missed?

if you just need the brake pads replaced they cost about $180 for both axles from your Toyota dealer. They will need to special order them. I've been told that they are easy to replace, but since I'm not mechanically inclined I got the Toyota dealer to do it. Lexus will most lilely charge you $300/axle

It all depends on who is driving the car. I know lots of people who can't get 30K out of a set while I can get 80K or more.

I replaced my miserable stock 'Textar' pads with Raybestos pads. The stock pads had chewed up the rotors long before they ran out of lining so I had to replace the rotors also with Raybestos parts. They've been great - the stock pads produced brake dust like crazy and the Raybestos pads are nearly dustless.

I am not hard on my brakes. On my 08 I have had to resurface the rotors every 25k. they keep pulsing.Replaced the pads once. I'm at 82k
I think the rotors have hard spots. First time they were redone the first thing out of the lexus dealers mouth was it was done as a "courtesy" and there were no hard spots on the rotors. I plan on have the rotors replaced soon

The sensors can be bought for way less from most auto parts stores. You only need them if they have been chewed up.

73K and dealer reports about 1/2 used.

Impressive for such a heavy car (5200+ pounds).

I don't go into the dealership anymore unless to get my car washed and cleaned. I purchase my filters online and bring oil before dropping it off at the local place.

I'm just looking for guidance as I'm a complete car idiot. LOL

I don't want to damage the car and want to have all the parts in purchased and ready to go before I need them changed.

You won't know unless you have them looked at. It all depends on how the car as driven. Pull the wheels and measure the pad thickness if you really want to know.

Does anyone recommend me doing anything at 50k miles? I hate taking my car into the dealership.
