With it on, with the 22's, and with the ambient temps at about 110-115 I get about 17 mpg with it on and may 18.5 with it off. When it cools sown I should be much closer to 20mpg. Should be fine. I drive with mine on 95% of the time
I think all the switch does is to tell the computer not to change to a higher gear until higher rpms are reached. Staying in a lower gear longer yields more torque longer, not necessarily more power.

driving in the upper rpms give the assumption that there is more power but really you are just using all of the cars potential in the higher rpm's.
