ok, you guys know i know NOTHING about the manchanical side of my 2010 LS460 L (73k miles) but my brakes are due for a facelift!... my question is WHICH BRAKES are the best for me? i've heard of ceramics and brembo but i dont know the difference at all! PLEASE HELP!


ps... i drive ALOT! i've put 20,000 miles in less then 2 months and i drive FAST AND HARD! so i use the brakes a lot!

Based on numerous recommendations from this forum, I bought Akebono ceramic pads from http://www.placeforbrakes.com/produc...&car_year=2007.

I also bought them for my wife's Jag. I am thrilled with them, practically zero brake dust. I haven't had them on either car very long so I can't speak to their longevity

10,000 miles a month!!! Even at 100 mph that's 25 hours/week. You must live in that thing! Good luck with the brakes.

I'm running Akebono ceramic pads on my LS and I'm pretty happy with them. Car stops on a dime! The only down side (IMO) I still get more brake dust then anticipated. Believe me, It's know where near the dust from the stock pads but still more then I'd like. I might be geeking out a little too much on this but I'm just super picky when it comes to my bling!

I was thinking of trying out a different ceramic pad just to see if I could get even less dust. I'll let you know what I go with.

I have the akebonos like mentioned, but I'm waiting to get new rotors to put them on. Look at member shibumi1's setup. It looks really nice!

As to who to have install them, apparently you don't know a good mechanic. In that case ask family/friends/co-workers for a recommendation. Worst case, have your dealer install them. I say worst case because the dealer will charge you more than an independent. Who does your oil changes and other routine maintenance?

i would recommend place for brakes as well. I recently bought my brakes from them. Also, the dealer will want to charge you 600 for NO APPARENT REASON.

As for the mechanic that installs you brakes, if they have the experience, they can do it. i saw them done myself. They aren't too difficult for the experienced mechanic. go to someone who is recommended.

i paid 125 for the front and back brakes. and 90 for the install (front and back).

Akebono for sure! Read the attached before you do by yourself (more than likley Lexus dealers would not use Akebono if you were to take the car there). Original OEM rotors will work assuming they are still thick and not warped - should take them to a brakes shop to have them measured, turned - about $60 to turn 4. Good luck!

Like mentioned above that thread has some good info. It is reccomended that you use new rotors with the pads, but you can also have them shaved if they are still full of life.

i got mine from fleabay.. at a great price... well over a yr now an no issues..actually they are amazing.. i've had people comment on how smooth an strong they are..

Candy..what up! Been a minute since I've seen you on here!

Akebono ProACT pads front and rear and enjoy perfectly quiet, smooth braking and dustless/clean wheels for many weeks...I'm not only the Akebono client, I'm the Player President lol. I've had them on all my cars. When these CPO provided pads on my 600 wear down, I'll be getting a set..although it is weird, my OEMs aren't dusting hardly at all compared to OEMs on my old 460...hmmph

You don't have any window tint on that beast??
