Default Opinions on a Used LS

Hi all, new to the forums but frequent lurker. I currently own a 2008 RX 350 which I really love, but I'm looking to change to an LS 460. In the near future I will be doing some massive commuting ~100-200 miles/day for the next two years, so I'm looking for an ultra comfortable ride. At the moment I have my sights set on a used LS model as this seems to be the best value for what I'm looking for, and also because I have enjoyed owning my RX.

I'm currently looking at a 2010 ls 460 L model with very low miles being offered at a good price. It was a trade-in to a non lexus dealer, so hence the low price (I think they're just trying to get rid of it quickly). However, after digging through the carfax, it appears the vehicle had one or more shock absorbers (air suspension model) replaced at only 16k miles and the vehicle was shortly traded-in at 17k miles.

I'm going to go for a test drive soon, but my question to you guys is should I even pursue this vehicle, or is the replaced shock absorbers a big red flag?

I'd definitely look for a cpo vehicle for this car. Others may feel safe, but I like the security.

If that is the ONLY trouble spot in that car's record, I would not consider it to be a red flag. Air struts have been an issue on these cars (I have four new ones). The car is under the original factory warranty, which you can extend for as long as the car is under 4 years or 50k miles.

I would certainly pursue it - or rather, at a bare minimum, investigate further. I'll repeat what I always say: a good used car is good with or without CPO, and a crappy one can be marginally less crappy after
CPO, but it's still crappy. If your research indicates this car is well maintained and has been in no accidents, it would be hard to pass up, IMHO. Again, it IS under factory warranty.

Go to owners.lexus.com, enter the VIN for the car, and you should be able to see the service history (performed at Lexus dealerships).

I have a 2010 LS 460 L with the air suspension. Yes, I have read a lot of issues with the suspension. I've had mine for 3 months. I had to have the dealer address the suspension as it was not within specs (one side was about 1 inch higher than the other). Just pay attention to the air suspension. Keep an eye on it. If you can get a Lexus extended warranty, I would. It will give you piece of mind. I have read about people getting a Lexus extended warranty even when they didn't buy it from a Lexus dealer. Look into that. BTW, it drives like a dream. My wife says it's like riding on glass...so smooth!!!

Yes, you can buy a Lexus extended warranty irrespective of how you got the car as long as the car is within the 4/50 original warranty. I did that myself (my LS came from a non-Lexus dealership) .

Same here. I bought an 8 yr/ 125,000 mile Lexus Extended Warranty for my 08 SC 430 that I purchased from an independent dealer. The car had one month left on the factory warranty.

For a quote call Jerry Johnson at Midwest Toyota 800-530-5789 who can sell Lexus Warranties at a discount.

Thanks for the advice. Going to take it for a test drive tomorrow, we'll see how it goes! I've also seen Jerry Johnson's name pop up around the forums, so if I do buy, I'll definitely call him.

Just an update. I didn't end up getting the original car I posted about.

Instead I just purchased a similar car with slightly more miles (23k) but the color I wanted (Deep Sea Mica) L version with the Mark Levinson system. Got a great price without much hassle which was nice after dealing with/missing out on 4 other cars since I originally posted.

I pick up the car next week! Now off to read the tips thread

Post some pics - inside and out - when you get the car.

Interested to see that Deep Sea Mica colour.

I'll post more pics once I get the car, but here are some that I have now. It's got a cream interior, either parchment or alabaster. Not sure which exactly.

1 week didn't seem so long when I left the dealership this morning, but now it seems like forever
