For KA band detection, I like it to be higher, and I noticed its a little bit better ,( as long as the rear headrest is obstructing the detector), but now when it comes to laser, we are screwed....unless you have a laser jammer unit. This is what I would buy... http://www.laser-interceptorusa.com/673.html my uncle has it on his gs430 and it works flawlessly!

One thing I hated about my V1 was the constant false laser/lidar readings. It got to the point where I just disabled it completely since you're screwed regardless. I noticed it goes off from a lot of brake lights from certain makes of cars. I sent my V1 in thinking it was defective but they told me it was working fine and it does that.

I have an old V1 without laser, but I am going to update it. I know what you guys mean about it being too late once the laser detection alarm goes off. What I've read is there is a certain amount of "bleed" to the laser beam. So if you are lucky enough that he's pointing it at someone else ahead of you, you will be warned in time to slow down. Any comments on the accuracy of this info?

After the few years of having my V1, I got more false readings than actual alerts though. =/ I sold my V1 a few years ago so not sure if they are any better upgrades than before.

LEO uses LIDAR all day, every day. He eventually gets the hang of it and can make you in seconds. The beam is so narrow that "scatter" (bleed) is almost non-existent. Even having your radar (laser) detector mounted 14" higher in the tint strip will generally keep it from alerting to LIDAR that LEO is shooting DIRECTLY at you. He is aiming between your headlights and the beam doesn't even extend to the top of your windshield. Do yourself a favor; forget about and/or kill the laser detection and instead, see about acquiring some REAL laser countermeasures. They do exist and someone here has already linked the best in the biz. BTW, stay away from K40 - total waste of time, effort, and money.

please you've gotta explain stay away from K40... no tickets in almost 10yrs!!!! the new RL360i is leaps an bounds above everyone else.. front AND rear radar as well as laser.. an they arent limited to 3 laser diffuser (or shifters) u can add as many as you need.. fyi if u have an SUV (basically a flat wall driving down the road 2 emitters in front cant possibly protect all that raw surface area..
LEO is becoming more proficient at LIDAR an not just aiming directly in the center of the car.. they (as a LEO friend of mine told me) now aim to the corners.. all it takes is 1 weak spot and boom ticket city sweetheart.. an only 1 in the rear... REALLY have u seen the back end of an suv lately..
Blinder is also a great company but my only complaint is after 10secs the protection turns off and resets....WTF!!! (at least its a selectable option w K40)

a lil history as told to me by my LEO friend... govt funding has gone down so they've taken to "alternative funding sources" so its either make more money or layoffs...he said on any given day a group organized speed trap can earn around $4-6k an hr.....SIX THOUSAND AN HOUR.......
i took this thread of course lets take you back to your regularly scheduled program..
Valentine1 does what it says.. it DETECTS radar an laser.. and it does so very well..

You wanna learn Lex, you go to CL; you wanna learn radar/laser countermeasures, you go to RadarDetectorForum.org. Simple.
That's all the explanation you'll get from me. You are responsible for your own education. Go at it with an open mind, and you'll end up expert in no time. Good luck and good (rapid) traveling...

Jamming radar is a FEDERAL offense, illegal in all 50 states. Jamming LIDAR (laser) is a state issue and is legal in most states, but is prohibited in California and nine other states. Radar detection is illegal ONLY in Virginia and DC in the US. Note that FEDERAL law prohibits radar detectors for commercial vehicles over 10,000lbs (that's why CBs are still around!)

ok..1st K40 only offers radar detectors(detection only).. and Laser defusers(detection and blocking).. in cali and a few other states (since lidar defusers are illegal they offer the same option as blinder (programmable)) where after a few seconds they turn off allowing you to be lasered.. but giving you a few seconds to slow down 1st.
they also offer VG2 detection (which detects radar detector detectors) once they detect a VG2 signal it will alert you to its presence then shut itself off..until clear of the signal.
as far as studies by INDEPENDENT companies(they all accept donations and advertisers tend to get preferential treatment)..so choose as u will.. but i install most of the brands available(even sell escort and k40 and blinder) an i go by personal experience an customer reports and after 24yrs in the industry k40 has proven to be the most complete protection available..
i dunno how it is in cali but here in sunny fl.. they write tickets for everything.. tint is about 80 bucks, smoked lights (front or back) 79 per tinted lens.. (they only recently stopped giving tix for loud stereos after the fl supreme court deemed it unconstitutional) tv tix are about 100 bucks..seatbelt tickets are on the rise too.. there is a sign 5 mins from my home the that reads "its seatbelt ticket season".. and the click it or ticket adds are back on tv and radio.. but most of those dont cause points on your DL...
now once again back to this thread...
since this was a discussion about V1's i assume most only have detectors only.
if you only need laser protection blinder is top notch.. but again k40 offers a laser only option as well.. they both have a long history.. newer companies may not be here for long..
drive safe..

understand i'm a driving enthusiast 1st an foremost... if my PERSONAL OPINIONS can help someone else make a smart educated decision.. then so be it.. i'm not on this or any forum selling product.. if anything the opposite is true.. at some financial loss i told the members of this forum u dont need to buy a $700+ alarm to add remote start but rather a $65 bypass module.. so question my motives if u will..
but i guess the truth hurts.. simply put the V1 only detects... no more... no less..
