Brilliant! You nailed it, Steve. The RTI wasn't about a new, better interface to refresh the old, tired touchscreen. It was purposely designed to be a malfunction in progress just so we would all switch to voice control! How stupid of me to miss this clever "nudge" by the big brains in Japan. Oh, wait a minute. How does that fix the seat heaters hidden behind the cup holder lid in your unit? Is there a voice command that helps you juggle a drink, the steering wheel, the cup holder lid, and the seat heater control? How would you phrase that exactly?

I think you're overthinking this. If you dislike the RTI so much, you could have always given your $90,000 to someone else. You didn't do that though, you gave it to Lexus for the 2013 LS460...with the remote touch interface. My comment about the voice control is not meant to excuse the RTI (which I don't find objectionable), it was simply a comment as to how much better the voice control is in this car vs my older ones. I would use the voice control over the touchscreen as well.

Nothings perfect, yeah the heat/cool buttons behind the cupholders are a little annoying. They're however only annoying when I want to use the seat heater and am using the cupholder, which isn't all that often. No big deal IMHO.

So , and this is a SHOCKER which should keep the management of Lexus up at night, in the April 2013 Consumer Reports annual Auto issue, for the first time since 2007, THE LS 460 IS NO LONGER THE TOP RATED CAR IN THE USA!!!!

Since its introduction in 2007, it scored a remarkable 99 out of 100 points. Way ahead of its German competitors.
The "New and improved" 2013 model with the mouse scored only 92
The lows : "Fussy Controls".
Since 1989 has Lexus never been criticized for poor, driver unfriendly controls. That was one of the big differentiators between Lexus and the rest.

In fact, last years Consumer Reports specifically called out that with theLS 460 "the "controls are user friendly".

I think Lexus needs to "Refresh" their new line up asap and bring back the user friendly touch screen controls they were famous for. What on earth are they thinking????
I'm not sure what they were thinking, even with the functionality of the 05 LS 430 steering wheel that could not only extend out but up and down. The seat functionality was also very nice especially with the choices that it had. To this day I regret getting rid of my Ls 430.

Not sure what you are talking about. The LS430 and LS460 have the exact same control functionality of their steering wheels and seats. Exactly the same in every way.

I have never really gotten it either, I never had any issues with the RTC.
