Default The Issue of Struts

I've read a few threads here about struts going bad. I have an '09 SWB AWD LS460 and at 46,000 miles, am starting to think about post-warranty issues. Frankly, I bot a "WARRANTY DIRECT" warranty that I've had on 3 other cars and love it. I know many of you will "poo-poo" it but it's worked well for me so far. that being said, I admit that I believe the warranty doesn't cover suspension parts. So I plan to have my dealer look over the car before it hits 50,000 (or do the struts fall under the powertrain longer warranty?). Is this a common problem? I live in Pittsburgh and there are lots of potholes. If they were gonna get beat up anywhere, this is the place.

Any tips and nuances related to this issue are appreciated.

Lexus warranty and CPO covers air suspension components including struts..its all in the contract. As far as third party..you have to be 100% sure it is clearly stated that it is covered. .at $1100 per corner..its worth it. I have had $2k in control arms replaced under warranty

Powertrain : Engine and Transmission and that kind of stuff.

Suspension is not covered.

If you have air ride, they will fail eventually.

Air suspension is covered under the Toyota platinum extended warranty. I have that warranty and it just kicked in 745 miles ago. Buy it. Don't risk it by getting another 3rd party warranty for just engine and tranny. The air suspension will fail. Bank on it. All four of mine failed and were replaced under warranty....that's $6K I did not have to pay.

Have the dealer check your struts every 1.5K miles until you get to 50K. I bet one fails before then. A pain, yes. Worth it, yes.

Read some of the threads on how to tell if they are failing. It is subtle at first. I have posted several times on it. Others have as well.
