Oil over filled
The dealership did my oil change. Afterward the engine idled rough. I drove home 50 miles and called and they said they may have over filled the engine oil. The dipstick level is about 3 inches over the fill mark. Any idea what damage could result and how to approach the dealer about it?

I am not sure how to go about it, just demand a oil change to the proper amount or have them drain it and give you credit, hard to say if too much oil will damage your engine.

I would then refuse to drive it until oil level is normal which would mean they tow it to the dealer and deliver it to your home when problem is resolved.
Excessive overfilling could cause foaming of oil due to crank shaft splashing. Foamed oil is not a good lubricant.

There was a thread about overfilling the oil on here recently. I had said a small overfill was nothing to be concerned about. However, if your dipstick is measuring 3" over full, it sounds like someone put in 9 quarts and then another tech came along thinking no oil was put in and added another 9 quarts.
If that was the case, I agree with Flyct, do not drive it.
