Wait here's the quote I read before about using OEM oil

Want to read some material on a "True" Oil guy?

FWIW: https://540ratblog.wordpress.com/

Do "Control F" on Amsoil and read thru ALL of them.

As it stands in Fall 2017, Amsoil Signature Series synthetic motor oils, hold the top two positions in my Wear Protection Ranking List for oils just as they come, right out of the bottle, with no aftermarket additives. Motor oils have to be EXTREMELY GOOD to perform that well in my Engineering torture test on motor oil. Amsoil knows what they are doing, and they have set the bar to a new very high level.

Oh damn, I forgot.....its all a scam!

Nobody has said Amsoil is a scam, we're just saying that its not the only high quality oil by a wide margin.

The way they sell their products through MLM style distributors and the zealotry of their "fanboys" is what I find off putting, not the product itself which clearly is very good.

Your post and attitude right here makes me never want to buy an Amsoil product, as an example.

I sure as hell didn't say it was the #1 or best oil on the market - how you derived that is beyond me. Matter of fact I use Mobile 1 in my Wife's RX350 and swear by it too. Ive been running Amsoil in my Cummins Diesel and also swear by its properties - matter of fact every liquid in the truck is an Amsoil product thru and thru. I change that Synthetic Oil out every 20k miles and have done the Blackstone Tests on it as well. Since I only have 8k miles on my RCF (Which oddly calls for Conventional Oil) and when it hits 10k I will be rolling with the Signature Series spoken about in that data. I'm also pretty sure Amsoil wont go Bankrupt if you don't ever purchase it. I may just be a dumb "Grunt", but I'd never stake claim to Amsoil being the "Best Oil In The World" whatsoever.. Cool your Jets Steve-O, no one is here to create a hostile environment. (BTW- I see we are not far from one another. I'd love to see the Mods you've done to your LS since that's what we're looking at when RX Lease expires next summer!)

It's not a scam, Amsoil is just Waaaaaaay too expensive for motor oil. I was going to try Amsoil a few years back, even with the coupon/discount it was going to cost me over $100 just for the oil when you included shipping which is ridiculous when I can get Mobil 1 Synthetic for less then $25 at Wallmart, even less when they are running promotions. I highly doubt a engine after 100K miles will look any different or be in better shape running amsoil for 10-20K miles vs running a much cheaper synthetic oil like Mobil 1 every 6-8K miles.

The one experience that put me off of really high priced boutique oils is when I did try Castrol OW=30 Euro formula which is a very good reasonably priced if you can find it real Group 4 full synthetic oil in my GS430, wanted to see what it would be like, I noticed no real difference but my engine was making kind of a burbling noise at times under acceleration not related to the new oil, I took it into the Toyota dealership maybe 3 months after putting the Castrol in to have them take a look at it to make sure nothing was serious and they ended up changing the oil by mistake, I was a little disappointed but figured oh well, at least I have fresh oil but I would have been absolutely furious if I spent all that money on the Amsoil and was doing the 15-20K changes so it makes a little more financial sense and all the expensive oil got dumped out after just a few thousand miles.

By now Amsoil should have some kind of retail deal/Amazon deal to get their oil out there so people aren't stuck paying a huge price just to have it shipped to their homes, the fact that they still don't is another reason I won't try them. I would pay maybe $40 or so for a good boutique oil but no way I am paying over $100 just for motor oil when there are so many good oils priced in the $20-30 range and oil needs to be changed so often. I also add Liqui Moly MoS2 to my oil making it a little more effective/extra wear protection.

They do have Amsoil on Amazon but it is $79.99 for a gallon, $8.49 to ship plus I will need two to possibly 3 quarts, each quart is $30 or $19.99 + $5.49 shipping. Cases(12 quarts) of 0W 30 are 219.99+16.99 shipping 0W 20 are $209 plus $16.99 shipping so around or over $120 just for oil each oil change no matter which way you do it after the little tax they add. Too pricey. Just one quart alone costs more then Mobil 1 gallon jug at Walmart when you figure shipping.

Oil from any of the major brands that meet the required specifications and weight wouldn't cause me sleepless nights if it was in my vehicle. I do use Mobil1 and have for lots of years. Is Mobil1 the best? Doubt it, but it is handy to grab the gallon container at Walmart at a reasonable price. It gets the job done for me.

Here is one of the best cost vs. quality oils available, and it is hard to beat if changed every 5000 miles:

or you can just walk into a Walmart and purchase the SuperTech oil which is supposedly made by the same company.

I'm out of the loop.
But IIRC SuperTech has a reallllly weak add pack, same for the AmazonBasics oil. It won't poison your cat but you're really getting bare-minimum (acceptable) quality oil.

With 3-5k OCIs SuperTech is just as good as the other brands IMO. 40k on the 460 and 60k on the 350 so I'm not worried.
