There is a revised version of the control arms for 09 and newer models. Sadly I think there is no cheap way out as most members have reported spending thousands as well. If your having all these issues I'd trade her in before spending a car down payment to fix early model year issues. The 07-08 seem to be much more problematic than any other year LS.

I did a search and was a lot of info. I'm not a mechanic. What are bushings? I looked on ebay and they were only 200 dollars. When I read threads it says something about brushings?

I'm confused

Actually, there's a section on it in the DIY Sticky at the top of this forum.

Ugg what a nightmare! I did find this great thread.

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...solutions.html

I think I only need upper ones fixed. Looks like ebay will save me thousands! LOL

So, it's not really the Control Arm that's damaged it's the bushings? Never heard of them before.

They are on ebay for pretty cheap. Has anyone ordered these? They are from Taiwan.

Since I have less than 60k miles, he was going to see what Lexus could do for me. He was trying to tell me to get an extended warranty. I plan on driving this car for a long time, this is why I purchased a Lexus! uggg

The Lexus rep is supposedly going to split the cost with me on the parts saving me $1,400. The total for the parts and labor is $2,400 dollars. He told me over the phone you can't just order bushings. They are attached to the control arms. How expensive are these control arms + bushings? Can't I just order these from a parts company and have another auto mechanic install them?

Here are the specifics. I need 2 Upper and 1 Lower Control Arm. They said the front control arm bushings are cracked.

Parts $1,407.50
Labor $1,050.85

Total $2,458.35 + Tax

The OEM Lexus upper control arms are $$$ (any of the control arms for that matter). If you buy them online from Sewell Lexus (Dallas dealership), all 4 are just under $1,500 not incl shipping with the CL forums pricing. Then getting them installed by a shop should run from $200 to $350 depending on where you are.
You should also get an alignment done afterwards.
Another option is non OEM upper control arms that can be found on Ebay, online parts sites and maybe stores like Autozone, O'Reilley's, etc. These parts should be considerably cheaper than the OEM Lexus parts, and probably made in Taiwan, etc.

Yes, the OEM Lexus control arm bushings are not available separately.

If you can get them to tell you exactly which arms need replacing, I would buy the parts online from Sewell Lexus and have a mechanic install them.
Or better yet, replace all 4 upper and 4 lower arms all at once

Thank you very much for your help. Has anyone tried these parts that are not OEM? Do they hold up?

Took my car to a trusted mechanic in my area and he showed me the control arms and the bushings. I do NOT need new control arms. They are showing a little bit of wear, but work fine. I am happy and pissed off all at the same time!

Didn't know about this potential issue with the control arms and the bushings, is there a TSIB for it? My '07 is going to the dealer soon and extended warranty is about to expire. I"ve read people mentioning to the dealer that the car was pulling or that they heard a "clunk from the front suspension while turning left or right into an incline driveway" Would this suffice to the dealer to get this issue taken care of?

That's exactly what I told my dealership. They had to keep my car till the next morning for a rep to come in and verify there was to much movement in the bushings. Once verified they replaced the control arms per the service bulletin.

I called Lexus dealership to complain and I am going in on Monday. You know they are going to cover their *** and say it's not up to factory code.

Got you, is there a way to visually/mechanically validate this issue before going to the dealer?
