Default Help needed please on LS460L TPMS system

I took my 2008 LS460 LWB car to a Tires Plus, and they said I needed a new TMPS for one of the tires.

He said he gets an after market one that is cheaper than OEM and works fine.

When completed I pick up the car, and he says the idiot light is on and you must drive the car for 15-20 miles before it reads the new TPMS.

I asked him how he knew that, and he said he called Lexus.

The display shows the tire pressure for each tire except for the new TPMS one which shows "checking".

Dummy me drives around for 20-miles and then the display changes to read:

Contact dealer for the TMPS system.

I get home a bit heated, and open the manual and it says there is a specific registration ID code that must be entered for TMPS.

Any suggestion on what should be done as I'd prefer not have to go back to the Tires Plus and drop the car off again?

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Signed by two left hands and half a brain.

Where in FL are you?
Each TPMS sensor has a unique ID code that must be registered to the TPMS ECU using a scan tool. The new sensor ID is needed as well as the other 4 sensor IDs when registering a new sensor.

Go back to tires plus and demand they fix it..takes 5 to 10 minutes to update tpms to sync with car ecu. I bet he just tried to upload the new aftermarket sensor only (hopefully it is compatible). All 5 sensors have to be loaded again via the tpms sensor tool, cant just do one new sensor. I have a tool at home to swap my tpms with winter and summer wheel setups. You have to upload all 5 sensors at once for system to accept.

If for some reason you need some new ones later, you can get a new oem set of 4 for under $100..check the wheel and tire sticky thread listed at the top of this forum for the post with part number so you can search ebay for them if you need a replacement. The batteries last about 6 to 8 years iirc.

I wouldn't trust Ebays sensors. I purchased a set of 4 off Ebay, and 3 of them were dead. Luckily I didn't install them in my tires beforehand. As CJITTY said, it doesn't take that long to reprogram. America/Discount Tire did mine within a few minutes.

Went back to Tires Plus, and they tried to scan all 5-TMPS, and only 3-would read.
The store manager called the engineer who designed the scan tool/TPMS sensors locally in Boca Raton, and once he calls back, we will schedule a time to meet.
Once he does, I will update the results.
