Default Please share your experience with Beat-Sonic NVK-18 Navigation Bypass Module

If anyone has installed this module to disable Nav / phonebook lock while in motion, please share your experience.

Specifically, is there a step-by-step instruction thread. I have been looking but unable to find.

Has anyone tried stereo installers to do so? If so, how much did you pay?

Thanks,

I just installed the prestigious society NAV/DVD bypass in my 2010.

LOVE IT!!

However, it has limitations which is not the module, but the 2010-2012 model years.
It's either ON or OFF
Meaning,
DVD in motion can ONLY work when you engage it (NAV now loses it's ability to find your location while it's engaged). So, you cannot have DVD in motion AND use the NAV, it's one or the other

PHONE and FOLDERS ONLY work when you engage it. (Same as above)

Other model years the DVD and phone are always on.

I didn't realize this when I bought it, but I did contact Prestigious society and this is their answer.

"the reason why you need to activate the system for DVD in motion is because Lexus/Toyota decided to make some changes and the DVD playback is limited by both parking brake signal and speed signal. Our system bypasses the parking brake automatically. This is not the case for 2007-2009 and 2013 and on Lexus models. We do not know why Lexus/Toyota made such changes for the 2010-2012 model years."

So,
If you want to watch a DVD in motion(NOT recommended and illegal in most states), you will not be able to have NAV tracking,

If you're not worried about the DVD and you want NAV controls and phone and folders, it works flawlessly.

NO buttons to mount, you simply press --++ and bingo, it turns on all grey items.

Thanks,
I have it with the GS, works perfect. You just reminded me to order the BeatSonic unit for the LS, thanks lol.

They also are a supporting and paying vendor here and post around. That's important to me.

Thanks for your response. I only want the Nav and phonebook override. Kids have iPads.

A could of questions:
1: Where did you buy it from, and for how much?
2: Did you instal it yourself, or had a stereo shop do it?

Cheers,

PS: I have a 2012 LS460

I installed my PS unit myself. It comes with VERY clear instructions as well as some youtube vids to help you along. It's a quality unit and works as it should. The Beatsonic is certainly a little cheaper, but from all my research, it's not as nice a unit as the PS. For one thing, the buttons are larger and more cumbersome and the wiring harnesses are quite large and awkward as well. They also do not come with clear instructions (if any at all). Spend the extra 50 bucks and get a known product that will not disappoint. I ordered direct from Prestigious Society.

I'm sorry, but thanks for the Info, but I'm a little confused, because there's a lot of info here, so are you saying if you have a 2008 you have to stop the Nav, or what are you saying... I'm interested in this system, thanks Shrikelex

doesn't matter which system you get, it works by fooling the system that the car is "stopped" so nav menus work, which means the cursor will freeze at a location. that's why you need to disengage the override once you are done so the system can track back your true real location.

for 07-09 gen5 nav system, you can watch dvd while the nav works in the background to guide you still. for 10-12 gen6 system, you can't do that. if you want to watch dvd, then nav has to be overridden the whole time too

That is correct and exactly what I was trying to say!

Both units accomplish the same thing.

However, the biggest difference In the two units are...

Beatsonic has two big switches that you have to mount somewhere in your car. Big heavy gauge Ethernet wires.

PS has NO buttons, all wires are neatly tucked behind the NAV unit. Very small and compact. You simply press --++ on your steering wheel volume and it activates. --++ again and it turns off.

For me the extra $$ was worth it for not having to mount buttons.

I installed it myself, took around 30 Minutes.

Got it! thanks Everyone, I appreciate it, my eyes go into line lock after a while lol. The PS seems like the way to go. Also I think I read before that it can be installed so that it can be quick disconnected in case of needed work at the dealer?

Can you install this from the back from under the glovebox without removing the head unit or do you have to take the console/radio out to install it?

Would be a nice addition to the car but I don't want to go disassembling the dash to do it (my days of auto interior deconstruction/reconstruction to install car audio are long gone).

If anyone has any experience with using the PS on the 2013 I would love to hear your feedback also!

for both prestigious and beatsonic, the installation is somewhat similar. in both cases, imho, if your navigation is shot and you need to go in for warranty work, i would definitely remove everything so it's all back to factory (apply to both units)

no you need to access the back of the navigation screen unit so you have to remove that. you can't access that from the glove box area.

to be honest the installation is not that hard at all. on 07-12 i can do it in under 30 mins and for 13+ maybe 5 more mins.

the unit works flawlessly on the 2013 LS, as mentioned it's all plug and play, no switches and you just use your volume buttons to control. installation is still pretty straight forward. the prestigious kit on 2013 LS does not have any time out issue

i haven't done beatsonic on the 2013 LS though, as far as i know should be similar except the switches

to be exact, the switchless setup is for 2010+ vehicles. unfortunately for 07-09 there is still a switch module, which is still far smaller than the beatsonic one, looks better, and thinner cables. yes beatsonic is a bit cheaper so that's the thing to decide

Thank you rominl, one question on my '13: do I have to remove just the radio to install this, or do I have to pull out the huge screen? Hopefully not both! And what do you mean by "It doesn't have any timeout issue on the '13?"

you are correct, you only have to access the back of the radio unit on the 2013 LS, which makes the installation a lot more straight forward (trust me you don't want to know what it takes to access the back of the navigation screen).

regarding the timeout issue. on some other brand, there are problems with the override timing out after 30 seconds or so. meaning you are driving at 40+mph, you override the navigation, but after 30 seconds or so, the navigation will suddenly figure out that the car is actually moving and "gray out" the menus again. people will have to disable the override and override it again, making it a very painful process. that is a design flaw in the override unit and should not be the case. some people are told this is how it is but fact is it shouldn't be if it's designed correctly.

prestigious units do not have this problem and the override stays active throughout the time you intend it to
