Maybe the engineering behind it is humidity and not temperature. Just a thought. Do you realize the a/c is trying to pull the moisture out of the air? If there is excessive humidity outside, it puts a real strain on the system. I build hospitals for a living and they require a certain amount of outside air for different reasons. It is NOT the most efficient system, but required by code. I don't think the inside of you car is an operating room requiring fresh air for infection control. Also, do you realize you house a/c is just recirculating air too? There is no outside air in a house system either. Better write a letter to your house architect and builder that this is unacceptable. Just my. 2 cents. Maybe 1 cent... Don't take my comment too seriously and get offended. Just offering a different perspective...

Good points and well-taken. That said, you failed to place my complaint in the context in which it was made. I owned a 2007 LS460 which was apparently acceptable to the Lexus engineers (they designed it!) as well as delighting millions of customers, the automotive press, and dealer service personnel. I now own a 2013 LS460 which operates on an entirely different principle: that of satisfying government regulatory dictates at the expense of customer comfort and convenience. Since I paid $80k expecting said comfort and convenience (at LEAST on a par with my 2007), surely you can appreciate my reluctance to accept that my new car is now worse than my old one, just as bad as my house, and somehow not yet quite as good as your hospitals - cough, MRSA, cough. Oh, and isn't it strange that the engineer's new focus on humidity and not temperature results in mold growth and start-up stink in 2014 Lexus LS models as new as three-months old (see above in this thread)? That seems counterproductive to me, but then I'm neither an automotive nor an HVAC expert. So no, no offense taken and none given, I hope.

I missed that you actually have mold. Do you really have mold? Or just a spell? Mold doesn't spell. Mold is all around us all the time. I don't know if Lexus caved to government regulations or not. I'm just relaying the engineering behind it. Maybe they realized the car can be more efficient on recycled air???

FYI....you fail to realize times change. If you want fresh air, go buy a 1966 Dodge Dart convertable. You can get some fresh air then...hahaha!!!!

As I stated in Post #38 in this thread,

"BTW, I have no foul odor in mine either, but I make a point to force it into fresh air intake mode as often as I can remember to do so (not every time, unfortunately)."

Perhaps you should read the entire thread so you can fully understand the context of my comments as well as the real world "spells" other LS460 owners are routinely experiencing due to the engineering you are "relaying." Once you've completed THAT task, you might consider visiting the latest generation forum in each model type on this forum (GS, ES, RX, etc.). There, you can bone up on other folks reeling from their "spells" as wells. Finally, you could always go to your local Lexus dealer and sit down with the service manager for a coffee. There, you may obtain the chapter and verse of Tech Tip L-TT-0158-14 (14 for 2014, BTW) which represents the company's OFFICIAL position on these issues.
