Default Question about replacing just the control arm bushings on a 460

I've been doing a lot of research on the control arm bushing issue discussed at length on this forum. Many threads reference the ability to replace just the bushing itself rather than the whole control arm.

My question is if the issue with the control arm bushing started with a bad design by Lexus then how do we know these aftermarket bushings on Ebay aren't just as poorly designed? I'm not referring to polyurethane replacement bushings I'm talking about the rubber ones.

You don't. However, at the end of the day your saving thousands of dollars and getting your vehicle up to, like- new standard which will take you for several years and tens of thousands of miles. You take your chances.

If I get to this point with my suspension it's the route I'll take and not worry about it.

Thanks roadfrog. I think the answer to my next question is yes but I'd like to confirm, do we know that Lexus OEM control arms were updated so the replacement OEM parts won't fail as prematurely as the original ones on my 2009 LS 460?

ive heard a few people complaining about the control arms failing, are they mostly reffering to the bushings?

If the bushings can be swapped out I don't think that's too big of a deal , probably a few hundred dollar job give or take.

Yes, most of the people I've read about are referring to the bushings failing, not the whole arm itself. That's my problem too. The issue is that Lexus does not sell the bushings separately so they will only replace the entire control arm. Because there are limited suppliers who sell the bushings it becomes challenging. Plus not all mechanics will be willing to press in the new bushings. Personally I've spoken to four different mechanics and none of them would replace just the bushings (which I would have to source because their suppliers don't carry them). The other option is to do it yourself which is dependent on the tools you have and your general level of mechanical know-how.

thanks for explaining ,,,yea man just source a set of new bushings, seems to be the only option given the price of replacing the whole arms, which I heard is like $3-4k

I haven't seen aftermarket rubber (oem-ish) ones. Doesn't mean they do not exist, just haven't seen 'em
The polyurethane ones are sold by Armstrong distributors, manufacturer is ADUS... you can find them on Ebay, Amazon

I Have just had mine replaced with the genuine parts for $8k under warranty and it's still rattling in the front suspension like an old taxi ... They are going to replace the front shocks now eve. Though they were replaced 12 months ago under warranty before the control arms were done
