What is this for?
Good evening guys,
Just purchased a 07 LS460 after trading in my 08 IS350. Very satisfied so far.
There are a couple of things that I do not know what they are for, and want to make sure before I start cutting wires.
As you can see there is a phone wire coming from the headliner by the windshield
A wire with a button by the shifter
A base of something in the middle of the console
Some sort of sensor/camera by the license plate, has wire going into trunk
What do these do? This thing comes with a back up camera already, and that thing by the license plate annoys me. Looks bulky....
Thanks for your help,

Nothing like figuring out what a previous owner has done to a car.
On a lark, I googled "rear mount radar sensor" and a few clicks later, I found this: http://a248.e.akamai.net/pix.crutchf...036/036SR7.PDF
Look at page 7 - the item that is attached to your console next to the shifter is a visual match for the "Remote Mute/Volume Adjust" item.
I'll bet the cord hanging from the headliner and the sensor on the rear license plate, along with the button stuck ot the console near the shifter are all part of an Escort Passport SR7 "Supercharged Radar/Laser Detection System" (which BTW, was $1099 at Crutchfield.com when it was available for sale). Other models may use similar connections - this is just what I found with a little searching.
The item stuck to the console next to the rear heated seat switch is the "socket" of a ball & socket cell phone mount - most likely.
You can easily remove (or at least hide) the button/speaker on the console by pulling off the side trim on the driver's side. It clips in at the front (pull directly towards the driver's door) then slide forward - pins in the rear of the cover attach towards the rear of the car.
The item peeking out of the headliner - just push it back where it came from.
The socket mount on the console is probably stuck there with double-stick tape. It's most likely 3M-type foam double-stick. Use a non-marring tool to Gently pry it off. Try sharpening a chop stick to a screwdriver-like point - works good as a pry bar. If the speaker is mounted similarly, use the same method to dislodge it.
"Goo Gone" is one of the best products for removing sticky residue from delicate surfaces. Shouldn't harm the finish on the console, but test in an inconspicuous place first just to make sure. Take your time removing the adhesive residue - over agressive work with even a paper towel may leave small scratches that will identify clearly where something had been removed.
I'd remove the license plate and find out how that cord was routed to the sensor. Installers sometimes don't give much consideration to how water can find its way in to the most obscure places.
Hope this helps.
