Drove an S63 today...LS460 kicks it's butt

I'll throw in my two cents although it isn't exactly apples to apples. My wife has a 2015 GL550 with active curve suspension. The ride is as good as or better than my 2011 LS460 sport. It is as quiet as the LS. The seats are better, the tech is way better, the A/C is way better, lighting system better, granted a 4 year difference between the models. So far so good on problems/issues. A new LS $80k, a new GLS550 about $100k. I did get the extended warranty as I read the MB forums and know it will have issues the Lexus will never have. But still, so far I am impressed. And it gets up and goes too. I didn't want to get a MB, but it was my wife's $$ so her decision. I'm still sticking with Lexus.

I was never impressed with the W221 S Class vs the LS. I've driven several that generation S550s and don't care for them at all. Harder riding than the LS, I don't care for the styling nor layout of the interior, etc.
Now the new W222 S class is another story.

Well not literally because the S63 obviously is faster and more powerful
But other then that, honestly, I was not impressed. This car definitelly does not feel as good as it looks (one of the best looking vehicles ever, imo)
It's my mechanic's car and it's a fully loaded 2010. I also drove his SL55 which is a beast power wise but a totally different car.
Anyhow, back to the S63, it has all the bells and whistles imaginable but as a whole it felt rough around the edges and did not give me the plush quality feel that my LS does.
Now granted the Mercedes S63 is not an S550 but I think it's pretty close...kinda of like an S550 on steroids.
Some things I did not like...
The soft close on the doors do not work like ours...you need to latch the door for it to draw it closed. In the LS you just touch it close.
The doors also felt "loose" for a lack of a better word when pulled shut. The LS feels much more solid and sturdy. The S63 door does not have the same thump sound when shut closed, you know what I mean.
The ride is very rough compared to the LS and it does not have my favorite LS option...the HOLD button.
I asked the mechanic what was his favorite feature in the S63 and he said the "active seats" which I must say after trying it, it's pretty cool. The seats grab you on turns and make you feel one with the car for sure.
But overall I did not feel like I was driving a luxury flagship that has a sticker price of about $160k
My 08 LS460 SWB feels even better now.
Thought I'd share

Two people in my neighborhood got the new Maybach. Boy what a car, however I do think it's weird how they don't use the MM hood ornament anymore. Looking at the car from the front you can't tell it from an s550 and from the back you can only tell because it says the name and s600. I would have thought they would have made it look a little more distinct from its baby sister the s550

Two people in your neighborhood have new Maybachs? Where do you live?!?

I'll see if I can get a picture of them. Its really crazy how much some people spend on their cars here. I didnt even realize the new maybach was out about 8 months ago? and this guy already had one. Must have ordered it a while ago. One is white and the other is a green color, I would compare it to the cypress pearl LS430 color. In Boca Raton, nice cars are like hondas. (out of the 1,750 homes there are at least 30 bentleys in here too, I often joke that bentley financial must send all their bills to my neighborhood). I'll take my LS460 over those cars any day though.

I almost hate to post this, but if I don't share it here when else will this topic come up. A friend of mine has a Porsche Turbo like mine (only a lot more power) and dailys a 2007 Brabus S v12S. While it's 9 years old, it has around fifty thousand miles on the ODO and still makes it's 720hp and 900+ ft lbs. I've seen the paperwork and it's real.
I had the privilege of driving it across the Bay a few weeks ago. The speedometer needle swings upward at an uncanny pace.
I could/would only wish that the LS460 had that kind of power and acceleration. But despite the 'all Brabus interior', I prefer the '460 on the inside.

Now my buddy didn't pay anywhere near the $350K that the original owner paid. There's a great story that includes a bankrupt VC, and greedy probate lawyer, and a helluva deal on an otherwise unattainable car.
