Nice find roadfrog. I have used similar cheap EBay sensors for the BMW when I did a brake job and they worked just fine (no rocket science involved). I'm just going to let my brake sensor bite it before my next major brake overhaul with new rotors, pads and brake sensors without the worry of dancing on the strings with dealership prices.
This is why I don't have a plush warranty because they wouldn't even cover this item.

 

Can anyone recommend brakes for me that don't have dust? I need to order these quickly. =]

 

Akebono... very, very, very, very little dust

 

Like everyone else will say akebono pads. I went with centric rotors from Autoanything. Com
FYI. Get a brake pad kit with the hardware included (metal clips, springs) just incase your originals are worn or cracked.

 

I was wondering about these. Do you need (or should have on hand) one for each corner, one per axle, or one period? I mean to replace what is worn; I expect that if the shop doing the work breaks something, that's on THEM to replace it, not me? Do I have this right?

The brake pads (referenced AKEBONOs) I got from Advance Auto. You do a little dance with your local store where you make sure they have the pads on hand. Then, they do some computer magic which takes a day or two and allows you to "order" them online much cheaper than the store price by using discount codes. Then you waltz on over to the store and pick them up.

See is150's post above. There are springs and clips that are often broken off by mechanics during pad change. You may need one or more kits of this hardware as well (no clips/springs are included with the Akebono pads).

They recommended that I change the transmission fluid. When should I do that? Car has 63,000 on it

 

Anywhere else in the world (inc here in Canada), you are overdue. For some reason, only the USA considers the trans fluid as "lifetime" (whatever that means). I changed mine at 70k miles or so.
