i have used this option both parallel and perpendicular parking, and it works well, but it is slow...
if there are cars behind you then i wouldn't do it as it takes about 10-15 seconds to set up which is an eternity in traffic.
definitely i decent party gimmick!

It's a great party trick that makes passengers ooh and aah. Real world? Useless for the most part for the reasons stated above. I'd gladly give it up for some other option like radar cruise, or whatever.

I've noticed that when I put the car in reverse, and am in the vicinity of other parked cars, that in the lower left and lower right is the option to auto-park. Bottom left seems like it is the back-in, and bottom right is parallel.
So, I've been curious if this is maybe a short-cut to using this feature. If I remember right, I pushed one of these buttons while in R, and the green box showed up seemingly in the right place. But as I recall, I had other things to do, wasn't interested in backing into an actual spot at the time, and put it in Drive and went about my business.
Why I bring this up, is that I agree with everybody that this is mostly useless. But I wonder if maybe I should go practice this from time to time to get much quicker at it. In that way, when the party is in the car, I can let it do it's thing without bungling it up.

I've used the self parking feature but it's a little tricky and slow. It works but I'm not impressed.

You can get marginally better and quicker at it through practice (I've played with it a bit over the years), but it is still slow and not practical in traffic, as others have said.
For MY 2010-2012, a button was added to the steering wheel to turn on the system, but again, this doesn't expedite anything too significantly. For model year 2013 onward, after the major refresh, the feature was eliminated.

I've never even attempted to use mine...honestly I'm surprised my car came with it at all, I don't have ML sound system or air suspension.
What I really wished I had was the ML sound system...the stock system is barely adequate. I wonder how hard/expensive it would be to put it in??
