Default Introduce Myself

How is every one doing this evening? Well this is my Introduction, I'm here because I've always been fascinated with the Lexus Ls's and I finally was able to get my hands on one this year. I will be picking up a 2007 Lexus Ls in 5 days!! So excited. I was wanting to know if everything looks good on paper and as far as price goes etc..

2007 Lexus Ls - 73,000 miles $23k

Attachments of service report below... I could also provide the Autocheck information if need be to give you all more in depth information about this particular vehicle.

It looks clean as far as the service history goes. This is not to be taken as a given as I would do a complete inspection of the vehicle. Also I would find out if the valve recall work was performed.

Based on the report history and other owners experiences it would seem that the interstate batteries that Lexus is using as replacements are garbage.

Interesting it says mounted winter tires from storage. I didn't know dealers would store tires for you?

This model year LS had 3 recalls, fuel rail, idler pulley, and valve spring replacement. Make sure that they were done, or have them done. Also I don't see any service since 58k miles.

Are you buying this from a Lexus dealer!

The battery that Lexus installed 18 months ago is about to be replaced tomorrow on mine...so agree on the "Interstate batteries that Lexus is using as replacements are garbage" comment...

Interstate batteries are near the top of the Consumer Reports battery ratings. CR ratings are not by opinion but by scientific testing so maybe there is another explanation for your bad experience.

I am sorry you have had battery problems. That can be frustrating and almost never occurs at a good time. When it happens we almost always say, “just replace the battery” because we think that is the best way to ensure that we don’t have a recurrence of that inconvenience. Automobile batteries are commodity items these days, a 48 month battery from one manufacturer is essentially the same as a 48 month battery from a different manufacturer. When we replace a battery, regardless of the circumstances, it is usually prorated and even the best batteries are relatively inexpensive. Testing a battery to determine its condition involves time because a battery can’t be tested when it is discharged.

All batteries that are “dead” are not defective or bad batteries. The magic of batteries storing energy is attained through a chemical process that wears out with time. If you have a “dead” battery that is 40 months old, or older, you will not leave much money on the table if you just replace it with out testing and you can feel reasonably confident that the battery failed as a result of end-of-life aging – of course you won’t know for sure what happened unless you test the battery.

If you have a “dead” battery and the battery has been in service less than 40 months, then the battery may not be defective and something else may be going on. If you are a DIY type then you should test your battery to see if it is bad. You can do that by charging it until the charging current drops to near zero and then measuring the open circuit voltage, after removing the surface charge, and determining the state-of-charge from a lookup table. The gold standard for evaluating a battery is to measure the specific gravity of each cell to determine the state-of-charge. If the state-of-charge is low after the battery is fully charged then it is bad. You can get a battery dealer to evaluate your battery if you are not able to do that yourself.

One of the major causes of discharged batteries in the LS460s are defective Door Jamb switches. These defective switches are often missed during dealer service and are the cause of much grief for owners. The defective door jamb switches also compromise several safety features. We have discussed this issue before, check here:

It looks good, but it doesn't look like you've had any of the recalls done. And a year ago I paid 22k for my 07 with 72,000 miles on it at the time. I would think you would be able to do a little bit better with the price...it's right after the holidays, places are slow, those credit card bills are coming in...dealers know this and usually will negotiate.
