one more thing - when using the usb port on your car - and using an ipod - the song's data is still converted to analog before it goes to the usb port - then converted back before it is sent. this is because apple doesnt want you copying the song's data. a company came out with a pure digital way to get a songs data out of an ipod or iphone or ipad, but it doesnt work in a car and its about $1000.

I got a SACD finally to test things out once and for all.
Got one of my favorite bands, Dire Straits Brothers in Arms album.
Listened to a few songs and I must say that the difference is hardly noticeable. The difference between a 256 file and sacd is just not that drastic. Sure it sounds better and is great, but I don't think it is worth the effort of seeking out sacd format albums. I think only a few select albums might be worth the price, and listened only on a nice long drive. But on daily basis it no longer matters to me.
I'm not sure how great or sensitive my hearing is at my age, I'm 36.
With that said. I finally decided to keep the most loved albums that I have on cdRs in wav format, converted from flac. Any future CDs I burn will also be in a same format.

Exaclty agree. After my GS450h (3 gen) I was wondering a huge difference for ML in LS600h. I was disappointed in audio CD vs. .flac, didn't bring the salvation... So for help: audio CD vs .flac is not a big diff, in dependence of the file quality!

You're in luck. Your 2012 will have a USB port.
Simply get an iPod Classic 160Gb, rip your CDs to iTunes in Apple Lossless format, and sync everything to your iPod. Then, switch off the clickwheel, turn down the screen brightness, and put the iPod it in a protective bag, connect it to your USB port, and enjoy the music! You'll be listening to a bit-perfect DIGITAL reconstruction of your original CD material at full Redbook resolution.
Lexus has integrated iPod control into your Audio system. You can pull playlists, search and list your collection by song, artist, album, etc. You can even play everything you have in random sequence (song, random). Best of all, the whole setup lives in your console and needs no attention beyond the occasional resync to add newly ripped CDs to your iPod. It will charge automatically, play whenever and whatever you want, and it won't get scratched, take up much space, or slide all over the seats! Good luck.
