Trade or Keep and Fix My LS
Ok I purchased a used 2007 LS from a kind of flakey dealer in Dallas some years ago. I have had it fixed for various problems and keep it great condition. It did not have a Mark Levinson stereo, so I thought no big deal and put a after market system in. The stereo sounds great but it not the ML. Now for the question. After driving some miles on my car (93K), I have no warranty and can't get one for this car with that kind of mileage. If I can get some warranty please let me know. So everything is out of my pocket. Needless to say I don't go to a dealer for repair work. I am going to have some paint work done on the hood and bumper from all the driving chips and my wife ramming a concrete parking stop. I am also going to have to replace the control arms at some point.
Would it be better to keep the car and fix it ( paint and control arms 6-8K) and put some more mileage on it. As it is only worth between 16-18K on trade in. Or trade it in for a 2013 or lower low mileage used car with a warranty . I really like the new design of the 2013. But I want a newer model that has the new control arms and a ML stereo . Do you think the 2007 LS will hold up with over 100K miles ? I would like some feedback from you Lexus owners.
Thanks

2007s last well over 100k miles (Stonebriar Chevrolet here in Dallas sold a 2007 with 212k miles for $16k over Xmas...it was sold in less than a week) so if you're thinking of the reliability of the vehicle, other than minor hiccups in electronics and what not, you should be ok...

First yes the car will last well over 100K, second I think based what I read you are in position to upgrade then I would go that route. You will be gaining a new look (that you like) new tech etc, I believe a used 2013 will give you peace of mind and you will be happy.

You now know the car will surpass the 100K mark with no trouble. You've gotta ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky? Ok so that's a Dirty Harry quote. But here's the thing, you do have to ask yourself: Will I be totally happy if I put $8K into my 2007 LS460 that I can drive for years to come. Or, do I say **** it, I'm going with the 2013, with warranty, new styling, new interior, newer nav, etc?
At the end of the day, you can certainly put lipstick on a pig so long as you are perfectly happy with the end results. But, if you can afford the 2013 and it will resolve all your previous concerns . . well you have a decision to make.
Good luck.

There's a guy on here with over 300,000 miles on his 07 LS 460, so I'd venture to say you can easily drive it over 100,000 miles. The control arms won't cost you anywhere as much as you think if you buy after market bushings and have a local shop put them in, so between the paint and control arms you shouldn't be looking at more than 3k in upgrades. And hell, of you don't paint it, don't replace the control arms until they break...it won't cost you anything.

As I posted in another thread, you can get all six control arms (upper and lower) for 350 dollars with a decent warranty. A shop can install them for a few hundred more. Anyone who pays a dealer their prices (more than ten times the price)....well....I wish I had their money. I refuse to pay those markups.

Hey All, New Member here,
I Just want to agree that all the work I've had to do to keep running has been something I can manage without too much regret of getting into. I'm amazed at how much I've been able to save, and thanks to the CL members and discussions, I've learned to make the work light, Thanks to all the Contributors.
I'd love the newest things, but I'm afraid that's all I could say. I'm not sure what I'd be able to work on myself, if that ever happened, I'd miss the great feeling I get.
my laptop isn't telling the right time, what time is it?

The car will certainly last far longer than 100k miles. The question is whether or not its worth it financially to put $6-8k into a car that is only worth $16-18k anyways, when its not what you ultimately want to keep anyways. If it was a car that you loved and would be happy with for the long term, thats another story.
If you're in a position to upgrade, I'd upgrade to the 2013.
