Seems like the way it works on the older cars is you hold the brake pedal and touch the key to the switch and you have 10 seconds to press the start switch. And I think you should hear a tone when you first touch the key to the switch - don't think it turns green - but you may not hear the tone if it is silenced by the volume control under the dash. When the battery is in the remote-wireless-key and the key is present inside the car it is normal for the green LED to illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed and held.
