footwell lights
The footwell lights come on when i open the door to get into the car and then go off after a short period of time. However, they will stay on all the time after the car is started. Is that normal? Can they be turned off when the engine is running?he manual is no help. tx.

Yes they stay on (at a dimmer rate). This is what's known as ambient lighting or opera lighting. You will see them in the rear seat area footwells, door handles and on the sunroof switch panel, shining down onto the console, etc.
Furthermore, some have removed the orange/red filters from these LED bulbs to make it even more pronounced.

Nope. They just dim to a glow. That glow is more pronounced with the filters removed. I removed mine as well and it just looks so much nicer.
Next time you're driving at night, have a look at those lights in teh headliner by the light switches and you'll see them casting that light down onto the console.

This can be changed with Techstream. I know the overhead ones can be.
Let me check...
I must need to be connected to the car. If I have time, I'll check, later.
Last time I had the TS connected, I turned the overhead console lights on...still debating on whether I like it or not. As it is, I don't think the instrument cluster lights have enough dimming adjustment. I like them at about half the brightness they have a max dimming (but with all the switches still illuminated).
For those with the overhead lights not on, it's like having the moonroof shade open during a full moon.

Hyeclass, whoa, don't go nuts with my comment.
What meant was, there are two little-bitty lights in the overhead console which shine down on the shifter area. These, and I think the footwell ones, can be tweaked/turned off, with Techstream.
I don't remember if there is a brightness setting...I want to say 'yes', but it's been months since I was in that part of TS. I'm fairly certain the footwell lights are set to 'on', from the factory, but they can be turned off in TS.
I recall thinking, before long trips, I might go in there and turn everything off, so it's truly dark in the cabin. I prefer to drive at night, but like having as little ambient light as possible.
In fact, I wish the gauges turned red at night. Red is the color most gentle on night vision.

Wait, hyeclass, you have an ES300H?
If so, you're in the wrong forum.
