Victory over the Brembo brake squeal

Victory over the Brembo brake squeal
After 17 months of squealing including 3 sets of brake changes and 1 TSB, a combination of R1 Concept premium rotors and Carbotech pads did the trick. Silent brakes, very little dust and great brake modulation. Like a different car.
Installation was a b*tch on the fronts. The shim and spacer are glued to the brembo front pads. You have to slowly pry them off to put them on the Carbotech pad.
The front brake sensor doesn't fit in the Carbotech slot.
Still, well worth the time and money spent.
My two cents

Nice! I'm hoping the Power Stop pads I bought (installing tomorrow) give a similar improvement. I do like how the factory Brembo pads bite, but the dust they make is unacceptable and it tenaciously clings to the wheels.

Congrats. Must be a huge load off your mind.
Question, what made you settle on the rotors you bought? Are they a lot better than the OEM rotors? Were there any other aftermarket rotors that you also considered?
Thanks.

I thought this was solved by the new Brembo OEM pads/shims that address the squeal. That's what did it for me...that and installing myself using lots of the required pad grease on back of pads. Doesn't help the excessive brake dust though

Did you get R1 Premier OE rotors or slotted or slotted and drilled or cross drilled? How you liking them?

2. High end cars with carbon ceramic rotors are drilled, but that's because they will not crack like cast rotors will. F1 cars don't have them due the the ridiculous heat and air channeling, but other race cars do have some drilling.
Slots have a purpose, which is to direct the heat and gasses from the rotors away. But they will tear up pads quickly all while serving no purpose on a civilian vehicle. Drilled rotors also serve a purpose of less weight and for removing heat, but the benefit is not seen on a regular vehicle.

Power Stop pads are still awesome after about 5000 miles. Since the brakes had less than 400 miles on them when I swapped pads (and the old pads were the updated Pagid/Brembo/Lexus ones which are super soft compound but also unacceptably dusty), I only replaced the pads. I put Akebono ACT1283 pads on the rear after doing the Power Stop fronts - the combo is excellent.
