I thought so. Have you already checked runout on BOTH the rotors AND hubs? If you're bolting more or less true rotors onto seriously "warped" (not flat) hubs, you could find yourself simply reinventing the shuddering wheel, only with pricey new components. The idea of on-vehicle machining is to true the hub/rotor combination without worrying about whether it's the husband or wife who is the problem in the relationship. Once you split them up, you're going to have to look in detail into their mating...EWW! My on-vehicle rotor turning done at 38k miles (shuddering noticed several kmiles before that) has been ROCK SOLID for the last 22k miles.

My pet theory is that Lexus hubs and rotors are sourced from separate suppliers (both parts fully within spec) and then mated only at final assembly. Depending on how the tolerances of the two components stack up in their random mating, you either get overall runout being maximized due to addition (and thus subject to developing shudder) or minimized due to cancellation (with a lifetime of smooth braking ahead). This would account for the random nature of the shuddering/warping experience by Lexus owners under what appear to be normal operating conditions.

Sounds like I should get them machined on the vehicle. I'll look into doing that first.

I've been enjoying the rotors on the LS so far, but after reading here I started paying more attention and I can hear the front brakes at times when I am slowing down (mainly if I hit the brakes on the highway like from 70 - 30mph), it isn't really noticeable in the city and hasn't bothered me. BTW, I am loving my staggered ricer look, hahaha.
I haven't driven a civic or such in a while. but that slotted rotor rear thing may have been due to the single disk rear rotor that wouldn't benefit from drilling; in a single disc rotor the gases would be trapped in the holes.

Well they are vented so you would have some room for gas to escape.

There may be a reason why this one ends up slotted (solid disc):

...and this one ends up drilled (vented disc):

a lot of times, the initial resurface of the rotor will cause the shake.

a lot od shops like to make more money by reccommending a resurfacing of the rotors when changing the brake pads. This is a big mistake.

this is a big industry scam IMO. they charge u more to resurface them, which causes the rotor to get weaker. Then they charge u again to change out the rotors later.
