SW15LS, what you say is plausible, but IMO the dealer should have disclosed this to the OP.

 

Wow - it's insane the information that you guys can find through those sites! The Arkonn site won't load for me for some reason - can someone take a screenshot to let me know what it says? I was looking for an LS for some time, saw this car the first day it hit the lot and had the deal wrapped up a few days thereafter.


I was the first person to see the car, literally an hour after it was listed for sale. Without them even having a chance to detail it, the car was mint. When I say mint, I do mean showroom condition. The car didn't have one single rock chip on the entire body, nor one single door ding, nor one single scratch. The interior is flawless and I was still pulling off the OEM plastic packaging from crevices in panels when I first had to clean it.

I had the car inspected by Lexus of Edmonton, it came back with zero issues (literally) and a note that the valve (spring?) recall needed to be done. Porsche had this completed while the car was in their possession and I picked it up soon thereafter.

It's awesome to be able to see the odometer readings as this matches up exactly with what my sales associate had to say, which was that the car had literally just sat for a very long time after coming up to Canada and was pulled out only for regularly scheduled (by time) maintenance.

 

Last words:
I had some concerns about how long the car was sitting for unused, but 10,000 miles has shown those to be futile. I'm a car enthusiast that drives the car in a matching manner. I've put the car through it's paces and it runs flawlessly; exactly how a now ~29,000 mile car should.

 

Thanks for the additional details, OP. I can't load the page at the moment, either. I'm getting a server timeout message. I think I might have been misinterpreting the dates I read on the screen. The duration was probably how long the web page at the dealer site existed instead of how long it took to sell the car.

I'm glad you had the car inspected and that the dealer had the recall work performed. Unfortunately, the Lexus online service history appears not to cover work DONE at Lexus dealers outside the USA.

In the 70s most cars were rear wheel drive and we had to drive them in slippery winter conditions. Will you put your LS away for the winter and drive something more suited to the conditions?

 

BTW, the arkonn.ca site is back up. It's a tool (still being refined) for buying a car in Canada that tracks a vehicle's sales, price, and other history, apparently based on archiving the data from dealer sites. The information includes when the web information was first seen and last seen This is much more detailed than the very basic information you can see on Cargurus.com.

I hope Arkonn eventually develops a USA version.

 

A RWD LS with snow tires is a very capable snow vehicle.

 

I'll definitely be driving it in the winter. Four Nokian Hakkapeliitta 7s will do me well!

 

I'm pretty sure no one drove back then - that's why my father had to walk 3 miles to school every day, in the snow, uphill both ways

In the 80s I had an RWD BMW I used to do 90 degree turns with - could break the back-end loose and kick it right around the nose. Made for quick turns LOL.

This is the same discussion over in the SC forum. My SC is RWD and I put snows on it (Blizzaks) and it handled great through what was a pretty wretched snowy winter here in New England. The LS600 is AWD so I'm not sure if I'll switch to snows over the winter although even AWD cars can benefit from snow tires in really bad weather.

 

I remember doing it in the 70s with my first ever manual transmission. I took a left turn, down shifted and did a 360 in the intersection before sh##ing my pants. Never did that again.

 

Remember too that modern cars have stability control, etc. They're much easier to drive in adverse conditions than older cars.

Now, I still wouldn't drive a RWD LS around in the snow without snow tires. Especially in Canada or anywhere else where it's real cold.
