My car - 2007 LS460L - came with the Touring Package's larger brakes. I'll say this much - the factory brake pads were appalling. I bought the car at 36K miles from the original owner, an acquaintance. He drove the car like, well, the 77 year old man he was. The pads were at about 25% life and would have been worse except the rotors took most of the wear. Deep grooves on all 4 corners. I replaced all the rotors using Bendix aftermarket pieces and the pads were replaced with aftermarket pieces as well (I think Powerstop). The car now has 64K miles on those parts and I looked at the pads this past weekend - they are at about 80% life and the rotors look perfect.

Fluids, filters, tires, batteries, brake pads, belts, etc. are all parts I will readily deviate from OEM provided the aftermarket maker is reputable.

Agreed on most, but wont sacrifice the OEM trans fluid.
That's just me though.

please forgive me to bring this thread from dead.
any update on those ATF flush or drain and fill?
this is because my Lexus stealership refuse to replace ATF for my 07 LS460 and they said it is not recommended by Lexus!?
most likely, i will drain and fill the ATF with WS type. just wondering any issues from the others who drained ATF.
thanks in advance

I did the drain and refills at 40k You can try calling around to find a dealer that will accommodate your change request..

Lexus lied to you. The US market is the ONLY market in the World where Lexus doesn't require transmission fluid changes. Here in Canada and every other country, these fluid changes are REQUIRED for warranty coverage (just like oil changes). Intervals are listed in my manual as every 96k kms (60k miles). And before anyone says "that's because of the climate you're in", I am in the Pacific Northwest about 3 miles from the US border and a couple hours from Seattle....we get RAIN, but mild temps and little or no snow (it's almost 60 degrees here today).

I have 120,000 miles on my car, the fluid was changed at 72,000 miles and again at 112,000. Everything is fine, shifts great. The second time I dumped the fluid the color of the fluid was much better than the first time I did it at 72k. I might extend it to 50k mile change intervals.

My Lexus dealer was surprised I changed it myself because like you said, they don't recommend it, but I've talked to Lexus techs that feel it needs to be changed before it gets to 100k.

going in to my dealer tomorrow for the 60k and having my tranny flushed and refilled with Toyota WS in addition to plugs, filters, rear diff change, etc. My tech suggested to do the transmission change around 60-70k miles---especially if I plan on keeping the vehicle for many years, which I do.

That's a high list. You know what the final bill will be yet?

I was quoted about $950. I do not understand why the plugs need to be changed out this early. I may skip that replacement if my tech thinks they could go a lot further.

Spark plugs are long life Iridium and dont need changing until 96k miles or so. The bulk of that bill is the plugs, as they are expensive Denso brand. I did a DIY on this job if you ever feel the inclination to do it. If I were you, I'd skip that part of the service. Iridium plugs are designed to go the distance.

Yeah. My dealership quoted me just under 1k for spark plugs brake fluid change and rear diff fluid change. 560.00 was just for sparks. I declined. Do plugs myself later had my shop do other two for just at 165.

They didn't comment on trans fluid change. At 105k miles I am asking my shop tomorrow what they recommend.

roadfrog and johnnyg66, thanks for the advice. Would love to save the dough on the spark plugs-maybe replace them at 100k?
