I know the VAIS unit uses the "off-hook" button. How does yours trigger it? And is the operation per use or is there a way to unlock it indefinitely?

PS and the Beatsonic, use a separate button, that when pressed, allows you to do whatever you want on the NAV screen. Then, press it again to return to normal function. Or, after a few minutes, it resets itself. I mounted my button down low by the parking brake release button out of sight.

This is one thing that I find annoying. My previous car allowed nav inputs while moving. Sure, it wasn't safe, but it allowed me to enter manually if needed.

No offense against attorneys, but this is one case where protecting one self is overboard. Let me sign a waiver and unlock everything! Lol.

Well, in my GS & GX not only does the nav lock but pretty much everything other than the radio! So are you saying that it's still the same 10 years later?

Yes. The restriction has nothing to do with Lexus. Think NHTSA

Yes. That's Lexus' approach to risk reduction. That doesn't change with time.

BMW/MB don't lock out anything when in motion.

This is a Lexus leftwing attitude to controlling YOU ....

It's hardly just Lexus. Most carmakers have some sort of a lockout.

Which BMWs and Mercedes models let you watch a DVD while driving? Last I heard it was a safety issue not exclusive to Lexus. Even my aftermarket head units wouldn't let me drive distracted.

BMW lets you make nav inputs when driving, not sure about MB.

um.. yes the nav lock sucks, but you can do almost everything telematics wise by voice! you can enter an address, tune the radio, make phone calls, change the tempature, and even respond intelligently to text messages (if you have an iphone with siri eyes free) all by voice command, barreling down the highway at 100mph. MY15+ cars all have speaker adaptation as well for the voice commands with a training screen behind setup and voice.

I've been driving Lexus vehicles with this lockout for 13 years. It's not a big deal. I don't find the voice commands work well, but what does work very well is the destination assist feature. That's what I use to set destinations on the fly.

My Acura allowed nav inputs while driving.

While an inconvenience for sure, I wouldn't let this be the deciding factor on your car. While annoying, it's pretty inconsequential in the greater scheme of things imo.

Yeah the voice commands SUCK! True story:

Me: Route me home
Car: Playing the artist Poe...

Especially when a device that costs less than $200 installed solves this issue.
