Just got a "new" 2013 LS 460 F Sport. I want a plain chrome or polished stainless steel 2-hole plate frame. So many of them to have negative reviews on Amazon and other sites. Where can I get a pair that are worthy of my car?
I went to Pep Boyz and after about 45 minutes looking at the selection of frames, I purchased a very plain stainless steel, two hole frame for about $24....... It looks good and I am happy with it. Griots garage www.griotsgarage.com has some nice looking frames too.
TIP! Make sure you don't buy a frame that covers up ANY of the license plate letters (EZ to write ticket) and use stainless steel screws.
My two holders are from the dealership I bought the car from. I've never really given it much thought until this thread. Perhaps it's time to find some non branded kits.
I bought several plain 2-hole stainless steel plates from Auto Attire. No rust issues despite being in the rust belt. Large selection. Get the clear plexiglass cover for the plate too. http://www.autoattire.com/stainless-...te-frames.html
Good point. I have never had an issue in IL or across the numerous states I have crossed logging hundreds of thousands of miles with a clear, fully transparent plastic plate cover - not a "photomaskcover" or similar. In IL, clear plate covers are specifically recognized by the Sec. of State as permissible as long as they remain clear and do not obstruct the visibility of the plates. (There are plenty of cameras in IL too.) Maybe having a law enforcement affinity plate helps.
I've bought multiple frames from Auto Attire and think they're quite good. I have these 3D frames on my LS:
They also make plain frames with a wide and a narrow bottom.
I have always run the plexiglas cover, illegal in MD but never had any issues, even during traffic stops. You would have to go up and feel them to know that they were covered, the plexiglass is matte finished.
Thanks. I see Amazon comments about this one saying that the edges are unfinished and sharp. Is that the case?
Not that I noticed. However, I've always put small felt pads (like the ones that go on the bottom of chairs to protect floors) on the back of the license plate so no metal touches the paint.
I have just a plain chrome one I got from the dealer, very simple, looks nice, hasn't rusted or anything and it has the chrome caps for the screws. They were about 25$ each, I put one on front and back:
This is what I have on my LS. It is of solid good quality chrome and looks very nice. The package does not show the chrome very well, but be assured it has the look and feel of Lexus quality.
