Default Buying used Lexus 08 LS460/87k/1owner/24k O.T.D - need some feedbacks

Hello friends

I am new to this forum and i was hoping get members feedbacks and suggestions.

I always has been Acura TL fan, but I am making a switch to Lexus LS460.

The used Lexus I was checking out is 2008 LS460 with 87k and carfax show the it was only one owner. The price tag on this car is 24k O.T.D. I went to Lexus dealer and checked out the past history on this car and it seem to be previous owner took care it well..

Before i buy it..i would like to get some feedbacks and suggestions and what kinda maint i have to do in near future. I was thinking it costs a lot for the car that has so much mileage...

But beyond that..I am getting this car at local car shops so..i am even more scared....

I will appreciate your response.

Thank you.

I feels as if that price is pretty high for an 08 with that mileage. I would say it would have to be an L with the Executive Package for that price and even that. You should be able to find something with less miles for the same price if not better.

Hi,
In all due respect, I think that is to much to pay. I just got mine for 23k, an 09, with 65k and awd. Can you tell us what options does it have? perhaps if it has all the features it might be worth it, maybe others can chime in and give their opinion?

As for what to look for, i think there is a sticky that can help you with that.

edit: mine was 24.5 k out the door if you include tax.

Now he did say $24k OTD. Tax rate in Cali is 7.5% so safe to assume he is getting it for $21500 or thereabouts.

How much is the car plus dealer handling? Forget the tax and tags, that is irrelevant to the price of the car.

Thank you for all your reply.

The price is $22,500..so tax and all the mis fees..O.T.D will be$ 24,500

The car has the comfort package which has the adjustable rear seats on the back..

beyond that...i was wondering how much more mileage i can put on this car.

In looking through the Lexus history, have the control arms and brake actuator been done? And does it have laminate glass? I'd be concerned about those things. $22500 is a fair deal and if the above work has been done it's an even better deal. Not sure where you are in California but in certain regions, the LS prices can be a bit higher because there just isn't a lot of them for sale. If you're willing to buy out of LA you can get better deals because the inventory is so much higher.

I would offer them $21,500 and give them my phone number and walk out the door. I did this with my 4 Runner and they called me in a couple hrs and said ok. You can still go back the next day if they don't call and try for the 21.5 or 22 or just pay them the 22.5. The car being one owner in great shape is worth it in Cali. 87,000 miles is only a fraction of this cars lifetime.

I ran the basic info through kbb.com. Their best price as if selling to an individual was roughly $21K. I don't think I saw a place that offered the back seat comfort package to add to the features.

In my opinion, if having that comfort package is important, make them an offer of $21K. If not, look for something else. The mileage wouldn't scare me. I don't think 87K is close to half the life left in that car. As mentioned, have the control arms checked. If the Lexus history report is good and there aren't huge gaps in time for service, you should be ok.

Good luck.

I'm in Canada, so I can't help with pricing info, however, I can help with the question of future service and what to expect. Spark plug replacement will be coming up soon for you as well as coolant flush. Rear diff fluid, etc Don't be scared about maintenance for our cars. They are easy to DIY and parts etc are not more expensive than most other cars. If you don't have a good independent mechanic/shop in your area, your Toyota dealer will happily service it for you for cheaper than Lexus dealers. Toyota's parts prices are also lower.

It is from the toyota family. How many miles do you think. I would say the miles left are up to you. How well can you maintance a car ?

Let me say, the angle you're taking on this a bit tough to read. The LS model, historically, has been known to easily go to 200k-300k with little more than regular maintenance and replacing wear and tear items like shocks, tires, water pump, etc. The big components of this car (engine, transmission, cooling system, heating/air) are pretty rock solid and have given very little trouble.

The known big ticket items that have failed on occasion with the particular year you are looking at are the control arms, brake actuator and perhaps the ML amp if yours is equipped. As was said above, you can and should check the Lexus service history to see if these have been done already. You mentioned that the car has been well maintained by the previous owner, care to share what that entailed? There are a lot of guys on the forum here that know much more than I do about these cars but I think I've touched on some of the 101 basics. Have the car inspected by Lexus too. I'd expect to pay somewhere between $21k-$23k in California so the price somewhere in the middle of that it sounds.

A ton. I ran many Toyotas past 200k. Even bought a Lexus SUV with 187k and ran it till 230k before I sold it and it's still running today!

Maintenance is nominal and if you factor in the once in awhile large ticket IE $800 just consider it the cost of doing business.

As far as how much you should pay I ask you this, what are YOU willing to pay? I debated this many times when making large ticket purchases. If there's value in it for you than do it, you and you alone have to live with the purchase. I just bought my GF a LV purse for Xmas. Could've bought half a dozen Coach or MK purses for what I paid but it's what she wanted and she appreciated it. We all value things differently, for me as long as it's fair and not out of this world who cares about a couple thousand when you'll own this for several more years.
