Default XL rated tires

Just noticed that the Pirelli P7+ in 245/40R20 are rated XL. In fact a lot of the tires of that size are rated that, although a few are not.

I think they're generally stiffer. The 235/50R18 in the same tire has a normal rating.

The question I have for those running 20 in wheels or larger, do you have XL rated tires? How are they?

I run XL tires on my summer wheels which are 22x9.5 and 22x11.5 VIP Modular wheels. The reason I do is because I run stretched tires and the sidewalls are stiffer. XL tires are for additional load, stiffer sidewalls and can hold a higher psi. I can't tell you if they are more stiff than a non-XL tire.

Thanks. Was just curious considering the air pressure warning/disclaimer on those XLs.

Anyone else run XL tires and can comment on the ride? My 18 OEM are just 97V I think, no XL. Just wondering what the min load rating is required for our car and if XL is required as you upsize?
