Default Battery Replacement

So went out to take the LS and nothing. Pulled the battery which is a Lexus that is a 84 month battery installed on 24 Nov 2012. Pulled the positive post clamp and soaked in baking soda as it still had some corrosion left over from Monday when I had cleaned it. I have the battery sitting on the bench with a charger on it. Will take it to have it checked out to make sure it is still good. This battery is not even 40 month old so it should still have warranty left? If it is bad I am hopeful that the local Toyota dealer will work with me. If not I may have to take it to Lexus of Tulsa which is 125 miles away. I do have the RO and service history when it was installed.

If I do not get a new battery from Toyota what are the recommendations for replacement?

If I'm not mistaken, when Lexus recently replaced my battery, it was an Interstate battery.
If you're not able to find out the fine details (model #), I'll provide them later this evening.

I was having problems with my new battery. Everything looked fine, corrosion-wise. I took it to the dealer and they said there was still some corrosion on the terminals - they cleaned it and no problems since. Looks like the LS is VERY sensitive to terminal corrosion.

Update

CRowe14. That is the one I have.

Battery on the bench has now been charging via a Vector Smart Charger for 3 hours now. It has been at 8.8 amps charging for over an hour.

use some battery terminal protector spray. or cover the terminals with a thin coat of grease. this will protect it from corrosion.

Update

Another l.5 hours on charger and only down to 8.7 amps. Thinking this battery is bad? On charger for over 4.5 hours now.

I took my car over to Autozone. They took it out and put in a new one. Been working fine ever since. I'd call your closest dealership and ask them about the replacement cost. Sometimes their "replacement" cost can be more than the Autozone price. I'd certainly save the 125 drive if I could.

As a rule, you should charge your battery for about 30 hours, or until the charging current drops to near zero. For higher charging currents the time would be shorter and for lower charging currents the time would be longer. Charging currents are a function of how deeply the battery is discharged and the design of the battery charger.

Update

When I unplugged the charger last night it was showing full charge. I put a volt meter on it and it showed 13.5 volts. This morning I again checked it with a volt meter and it was down to 10.9 volts. "Houston we have a problem" Heading to the local O'reillys to have it checked and price a new Interstate first and then off to the local Toyota dealer with paperwork in hand to see what they can/will do for me concerning the remaining warranty.

Was not aware of this fact, great information to know.

OP:
Glad to see that you've managed to catch the failure before being out somewhere and having failure at that point.
I'd be curious to know if the battery Lexus distributes is the same model/type of battery that can be picked up at your local O'reillys /AutoZone/AAP...

Lexus OE battery is a Panasonic. Getting almost 4 years out of a battery in an "electronics heavy" LS460, is not bad. There are many options for replacements. My replacement is an AC Delco Professional with a four year replacement and 8 year pro-rated warranty.

My original battery was replace by the dealer. It was an Interstate - $235 for the battery and $100 for labor!
