Floor Mat retaining hook grommet issues
If anyone has had the floor mat retaining hook that will not go back on easily it is probably due to the car wash people tearing the floor mat out of your car and now has damaged the grommet. This sucks. If this happens you can go to Lexus and get an updated grommet, it cost me about $9.00 and installed it myself. If it is the drivers side you might be able to push your dealer to cover it under the recall but for passenger mats no coverage.
Mine luckily was the outer hook near the door. I have attached some pics that will help illustrate how to do it. If you have the further one in have fun reaching that far.
First; go get a replacement grommet from Lexus. You will see it is a larger diameter than original one.
Next pull up the molding and unclip the wire harnesses to keep the wires out of the way.
The hardest thing about installing this updated clip is the pressure needed to crimp it together on the carpet. You can see I used a pry bar underneath to hold the bottom portion of the clip and I used a socket that is the same diameter as the top of the grommet. You will have to press very hard to get this to click on. Yes you will probably create a few new words for the engineers. Once it does seem to be connected try getting the hook back in, mine fell apart and had to press it back on. Once you have the hook in you will not need to worry about it falling apart anymore.
Tip: if you are going to a full service car wash, unhook the mats for the guys.
