Default Sold my 2014 LS 460

Yesterday I sold my LS as for what I was paying on my lease each month it wasn't worth it. To explain, I am retired and being so I don't go very much so the car was sitting in my garage for most of the month. I drove it to church 3 or 4 times a month and/or short trips to Lowes or Home Depot and that was about it. We did take trips to our favorite Casino at least once per quarter and that is where the vehicle really shined. I truly enjoyed it on the highway!
When I first got the Lexus I was very happy as it was the first one I had owned, so much so that I traded a 2014 Chrysler 300C which I had only purchased 5 months for it. You can imagine the hit that I took on that. The LS was great but it is lacking in technology and therefore is behind most of the other Luxury cars in it's class. Hopefully, that will change with the next model. Although I did not say a whole lot on the forum, everyday I came out to hear what's going with the rest of your vehicles.
At this point I don't know what I will get but since we have another vehicle, I am in no hurry so I will wait and see. Also I will probably continue to come to the forum because it has been enjoyable.

You gotta do what you gotta do right? I'm curious what the car was lacking in the technology department that you wish it had? WiFi? Forward facing camera?

No point in paying for it to sit around most of the time. Save your money for yourself.

Good call.

It sounds like you did the right thing for you. I also have a leased 2014 LS460, and we are way behind on the miles, to the tune of around 20K below what we bought, and the lease is up in June. Knowing how little I've driven it and how much I paid, I sympathize with your feelings that you weren't getting full use of your money. My DH is now driving it to work RT 100 or so miles a day to try to use up some miles before the lease is up. I actually think I see an extra spring in his step when he comes home at night! I wouldn't be surprised if he wants to buy it at the end of the lease.

I do love that car, though, and I think it is probably the nicest car I will have ever "owned" in my life. I hang out here, too, and have learned so much from these guys.

I don't quote understand the logic. The OP states that he didn't have much use for it and the bottom line was that he/she couldn't justify the lease pmt. OK, get it....

But then he states that it wasn't as technologically advanced as others in it's class..... thereby leaving the impression that he'd like to have one of those other more technologically advanced auto's...

I took it as maybe if it was as advanced as the others he'd have kept it? He did say "Hopefully, that will change with the next model" which led me to believe if it does change he might rejoin the club?

Guys, the car is behind in tech. It just is. It is however significantly cheaper than cars in the segment that are more advanced. If you're leasing the difference in cost is 30%. S Classes, 7 Series, even the A8 lease well into the $1,300s a month with reasonable mileage allotments.

The only other flagship car you can lease for $1,000 or less is the XJ8, and the tech in it makes the Ls460 look like a spaceship.

I don't blame you, it's a lot of money to spend for it to just sit in your garage.

Hey Steve what are we missing in tech? It's hard to know what you don't have and not being able to access any of the apps here in Hawaii is already a handicap.

Navigation platforms in general are WAY better with MB, BMW and Audi. Better infotainment integration. Lighting systems, autonomous driving systems, you name it. Everything is on an entirely different level.

Based on that little usage no luxury car is really worth the money unless you are rolling in dough and have no one to leave it to.

That reminded me of a joke.

I went to the casino in a $80K car and came back on a $900K bus!

An advanced camera system, advanced sound system, advanced suspension system, advanced self parking and exiting, advanced seating, night vision that detect objects and pedestrian is just a few of the high tech features the 460 don't offer yet. But remember Lexus (Toyota) meant value and reliability. MB and BMW have always been more advanced but now they have taken everything to a new level.

In all fairness, I think some of these are available on the LS, but not all.

Advanced camera = Forward and side cameras that help generate an overhead or Skyview for guess-free parking (not available)

Advanced sound???? = Doesn't ML qualify??

Advanced suspension = Air suspension? (available). It's not the Magic Body control as in the Merc, but that is only available in RWD models

Advanced self parking = Maybe not the latest version from BMW, but Lexus discontinued the automatic parking system in 2013.

Advanced seating = Like power reclining rear seats and footrests with heating and cooling? (available) Not the heated armrests though.

Night vision: Part of the IR imaging system with camera. The system is still available with advanced pre-collision, but Night vision option was discontinued in 2014 because of low popularity and high distracting factor.

Heads up Display (not available), but I found it incredibly distracting while test driving other cars and turned it off.

A flexible ambient interior lighting system (not available)

If you like the LS, I'd buy a used one, even a 430 for that little usage.

Guys
As mentioned above I sold my car because of little use. I would have liked to have some of the new gadgets, but I knew what the LS had before I got it. Even if it had some of the toys, I would not have kept it. At this point in time I plan to not buy anything but in the future I know that I will because I am not used to sharing a vehicle with my spouse. I'll take it as long as I can!

Gotta do what you gotta do. BTW, if you still had the Chrysler, would you have sold it too?
