superdenso - I worked for OEMs (Toyota & Hyundai-Kia) for 12 years. The "XXXX Motor Corporation" is straight up, no joke, first class, trying to do best for the customers. The "XXXX Motor Sales" at least the dealerships, make Las Vegas casinos look like day care centers. The front line car sales staff, well I don't want to get this thread closed so I'm swallowing blood from biting my tongue.

So yeah, you and I may be on an island, but if we walk around a bit, there's probably plenty others.

From my own research long ago I reached the same conclusion that Toyota knows the right formula for their engines by utilizing Moly and a high viscosity index.

Although this may show the Toyota oil as being slightly better Mobil 1 I think it's mostly a wash as the Mobil seems to have done equally well and seems to be a good alternative.

But most off all it shows that lower viscosity oils are in no danger of harming the engine.

Thanks for documenting this wayman.

In another thread, someone asked if anyone had any good experiences with dealers. I laughed heartily and said, "no". Subsequently, a moderator deleted my post and warned me that my comments were seen by the OP as "antagonist". I therefore echo 7milesout to avoid be wee-wee whacked again.

Many people love the dealership. They don't mind paying up for their car purchase. Then if they have warranty the only expense is service after the free period. Many people have lots of money so it isn't a big deal to them. It's even coffee table conversation telling their friends and relatives how much a service cost them. My friends dad and wife had 25 new Lexus cars and he loves the dealer. He tells me how they call him all the time and send him little gifts. They swap his 2 cars out every 2 to 4 years. All LS's for him and RX's etc for his wife. Life is good for the upper 2 percent. The dealership is now a place for very wealthy people or those that are not bothered by the prices. I was part of the program so I should not be too negative. With the costs of doing business today at these manufactures mandated facilities, loaner cars, health insurance etc. this is what it takes to keep anyone interested in owning or working there. The rest of us have other options.

Thanks for the info.
I always do synthetic oil change at Lexus dealer. Is it safe to assume they use the Toyota preferred oil mentioned in your tests? It says so on the invoice so I hope it is.

I'm debating if I should use Mobile 1 in my 92 Lincoln and 90 Mercedes. Those two only do about 1-2 k miles a year. From what I remember, synthetic oil does leak more from bakers that are already weak. Can some one chime in on that?

Default This may or may not help.

I'm currently at 7,500 miles on Mobil 0w30 and averaging +35 at 75mph. The mpg's went up at about 7,000 mi. It's doin' so well I dread draining it. If someone wants to pay the $28 I'll send it to Blackstone

Redline 5w30 is goin' in there next. I like dealer parts, but I draw the line at their oil/can't do it.
