Default Factory warranty service

My original factory warranty expires in few weeks. Took the car to the dealer to have them check for any warranty repairs. Also to look into minor wind noise on driver side (yes, this is 2012 model). Even the SA was surprised.

Anyhow when I went pick the car, following services were performed;
  • Door panel adjustment for wind noise. With short distance driving, I could see/hear the difference. Now I am hearing on passenger side. Need another appt.
  • Turn off steering wheel push/pull movement - not charged
  • One of the worn engine mount was replaced (didn't request) . Part 12361-38221
  • Both front air shocks were replaced (didn't request - wasn't aware of it) due to some wear. Out of warranty cost is around $3k. Part no : 48020-50291
  • Control arms checked OK (requested)
Left the dealership with happy face!. Have been using Bridgewater Lexus for the past 1+ years and happy with their service and cost. More importantly, they accepts parts from outside. Prior to this, I was using one in North NJ, with two bad experiences, I stopped going there.

Anyone with closer to end of factory warranty, its worth while making a trip to dealership.

Wow, it's good to know the dealership gave it a thorough check up and replaced warranty items. I have many questions as I am in a similar situation (49000 miles).
Did they do an extended test drive to identify (localize) the door noise?
Were the other items (air shocks, engine mount) identified in a visual inspection or during a test drive?
Did you accompany on test drive?
I am guessing these repairs took at least a couple of days.

Since you have a 2012, you are nearing the end of the 4 year period. What is your mileage? I am a bit surprised that you have a worn engine mount below 50K miles. From what I have read, it's reasonable to have to replace the air shocks in the 40K range.

I reported wind noise issue and asked them to do a test drive. They did that and that's how I believe air shocks were identified. I didn't accompany as I dropped the car in the morning and picked up at closure. But spoke to the technician. I was surprised by engine mount (only the left one was replaced). My car has 41k miles and its too early for engine mounts to deteriorate unless there is design/manufacturing flaw.

I haven't seen anyone reporting engine mount issue so far. May be an isolated case. I would expect 90-100k on air shocks, 40k again is too early in my mind. My GX also has air shocks. Only the back ones failed at around 100k mark. Fronts are still original.

Thanks, I should get my car thoroughly inspected at the dealership before the new car warranty runs out. Are you buying the Lexus Platinum VSA ? I am going to get the 8 year/125K (or hopefully an even longer one) warranty next month before I hit the 50K milestone.

I am getting platinum 8 yrs / 100k from Troy. Even a single repair would cover that cost. There is a 9 yrs warranty runs above 4K.

I am going to buy a 8 year/125K VSA from Toby Rivers in Louisiana for 3.5K. Since your car is not CPO, your 8 year warranty is counting from the date of first purchase, so you will have coverage until 2020 or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. How much are you paying?

Received below quote from Troy Dietrich of Toyota of Greenfield, MA:

Lexus Extra Care, Platinum coverage with $0 deductible:
6 yr / 70K - $1115.00
6 yr / 100K - $1700.00
7 yr / 75K - $1665.00
7 yr / 100K - $2245.00
7 yr / 125K - $2910.00

8 yr / 100K - $2585.00
8 yr / 125K - $3660.00

Looks like Toby is bit cheaper than Troy. Since I have purchased one from Troy in the past and given all the paperwork for LS460, will stick to it. Since you mentioned 'since your car is not CPO.....". If it is a CPO car, does the extended warranty coverage dates calculated differently?.

I am sorry, I just checked, and Toby quoted $3760, so Troy is cheaper. I got a quote from Troy also BUT he said he could not sell across state lines anymore. He described a complex procedure that would allow me to buy from him. Maybe he is able to make an exception for you since you are much closer to him. Unless you are going to MA to buy it.

Yes, for a CPO car, the VSA dates are added to the end date of the CPO period. So, let's say your 2012 was a CPO with a 2 year warranty, which would be good until 2018 (4 year new car +2 year CPO). The 8 year VSA would have started from 2018, giving you coverage until 2026!! Not only that, as a CPO vehicle, you get unlimited mileage coverage thru 2026

Comotiger, you might have explored this, if you have a mailing address in MA, Troy could issues that. Or if someone could pick in person that will work too. If you are comfortable, I could receive and fedex to you. Troy told me that NJ/NY are part of MA region that he could cover.

That's a very good deal if it is unlimited mileage.
CA must have different rules with Platinum VSA.
My 08 with CPO warranty (purchased in 2014) has 3 yrs/100k miles. Good til 2017 or 100k miles
My "extended" Platinum VSA is for 3 years + extra 25k miles. Good til 2020 or 125k miles. Wish mine has unlimited mileage.

Thanks for the offer. But Toby has been very responsive and helpful, so the $100 difference is not a big deal. I am hoping he has a better VSA deal available in September.

There are different types of CPO warranties, and I can't keep them straight. Some come with unlimited mileage. The important thing is Platinum VSA warranty adds to the end of the CPO period, whereas the clock starts from the date of first purchase if it is bought for a non-CPO car.

I am in Houston. I want to buy an extended warranty for my 2013 LS 460L. I have 48K miles on it now. I have to buy the warranty before the 50K warranty ends. Anyone could give me an idea on where to buy the warranty from. I want the max miles, so I would get the 8yr/125K mileage warranty. I bought my last warranty from a Lexus dealer in Colorado. Does anyone know where I should go?
I called Troy and he told me the same BS about selling across states.
COMOTIGER what is Toby River's phone number or what is the name of the Lexus dealer in Louisiana?

Question: Does the car have to be a CPO vehicle to get the VSA Platinum warranty?

I am in exactly the same situation you are at 49070 miles! Here is Toby's contact info, and the rates he quoted me in April. They are still good, but he asked me to wait until September as he may be able to offer longer years/mileage that could be even better value. I will buy in mid-September. Your vehicle does not have to be CPO to get the Platinum VSA. As I explained earlier, IF you had some types of CPO warranty, this VSA would add 8 years and unlimited miles coverage from the date of purchase of warranty. Whereas for folks like me (and you, I suspect) who have non-CPO cars, the 8 year coverage starts from the date of first purchase, so your coverage will extend thru 2021/2022 or 125,000 miles, whichever comes first.

6 year 100000 = $1800
6 year 125000 = $2420
7 year 100000 = $2345
7 year 125000 = $3010
8 year 100000 = $2685
8 year 125000 = $3760
All are Lexus Platinum warranties with a ZERO deductible. Yes they are good at any Lexus dealer in the US.

Are you going to park your car and wait till mid Sept. as you have only 30 miles to go? Aren't you supposed to get the warranty before the original warranty runs out? or am I mistaken? and really will they know what mileage you have on your car when you buy the warranty unless you take it to a Lexus dealer?
